I purchased an item in February from a Chinese and paid immediately. I didn't receive the item ( a wedding dress) which resulted in a lot of stress. Twice I contacted ebay and once paypal - neither have helped. I have closed m paypal account and haven't bid on ebay since. How can I get my money back? I notived the seller still selling the dress on this site now! It is little wonder people are leaving ebay for gumtree and safer online sights.

To dispute a transaction and try to get your money back for an item that wasn't received, you need to open a case with PayPal within 45 days, after which you have up to another 20 days to escalate it to a claim. Once that initial 45 days passes, neither eBay nor PayPal can help you get your money back so it is very important to be aware of these limitations - which apply on and off-eBay.

The only alternative if the dispute timeframe has lapsed is, if you funded the payment with a credit card, check if your card provided will allow you to file a chargeback on the payment.

Did u put in a claim with paypal. I have only ever had to do this once as most of the time the seller will resend the item. Did it have tracking.

I would contact paypal again as they will help the only problem I see is if u only just contacted them as you bought the item in February and you should make contact in 60 days I think is the cut off

Belinda, please do not give incorrect information on the boards. It does not help the OP at all.

There is no point in contacting ebay or paypal after all this time....you only have 45 days to open a dispute and a further 20 days in which to escalate to a claim.

jenn, you have left it too late to do anything, and closing your paypal ac was not a good move either.

as a buyer you have full paypal Buyer Protection, with a guarantee of getting your $$ back, and it is FREE, no cost whatsoever to the buyer. all you need to do is follow their guidelines, set out in the payment confirmation email, open dispute within 45 days.... escalate to a claim if no item forthcoming from the seller and your $$ are automatically refunded by Paypal, simple, quick and best of all free service.

alas, you didn't follow thru on that safety net and have lost your money.

Gumtree, an eBay owned site, is certainly not ''safer'' than ebay and without paypal you'll have no protection whatsoever on any online purchase.?:|

No that's why I understand that it needs to be done in 45 + 20 = 65 not 60 but that's why I asked if they put a claim in already. If this was done and she closed her account the funds could be there. I did say meaning if she didn't make a claim already the problem would be that she should have made contact within 60 days should have been 45 then 20 to escalate.

But without knowing if the claim was done that's why I asked. I was not trying to give incorrect information if anything I was trying to gather more information

sorry and as one poster said if paid with a credit card account she still has some action she can take and paypal will give that information to you as they have explained it to me before.

Paypal does not give the information about doing a bank chargeback.

If a paypal payment was funded with a Credit Card or Visa Debit Card the OP can contact her bank and initiate a chargeback, provided it is still within the time limit of that bank.

Some banks have as little as 90 days so there is not guarantee that the OP can even do that as it is well over 3 months since the purchase.

As the OP has closed her paypal account the option is not there anyway even if the payment was funded by a CC.
