I contacted a seller and asked if they would discount a sewing pattern and they replied back that they did not discount on patterns and then they discounted the pattern and blocked me from buying it. Is this allowed?

Yes.

I understand the seller's actions seem a bit rude, but the end-of is that a seller is able to block any buyer for any reason, whether it seems fair or reasonable to others or not, and attempting to circumvent those blocks by using a different account is a policy breach that can see all associated accounts sanctioned.

Yes the seller can do that as DG said, but if its true then it is a seller cutting off their nose to spite their face. Simply doesnt make sense to me.

No, it doesn't make sense. I have many buyers ask for discounts, and I respond yes or no depending upon the circumstances. I certainly wouldn't block. We Australians are getting better at asking for a bargain and I don't see anything wrong with that at all. However as a buyer don't be upset when it isn't offered.

Akthough it is not something I would have done I can sort of see why the seller would do as they did. They may have thought that you had a valid point about the pattern being overpriced but not want to deal with a buyer who would ask for a discount on a BIN item when ebay do not allow you to discount on item price. It is fine to ask for a postage discount if it is going to be cheaper for some reason but I would never find it acceptable to ask for a price reduction and I am perfectly happy haggling for a discount face to face in a shop.

Thanks for your responce. This seller was selling for nearly double of what the shops were selling for and because I suffer from panic attacks I couldnt get to the shops. Just seems a bit nasty.

I can't say I ever ask for a price reduction on ebay either.

I might watch an item and if it doesn't sell, it may come on again at a reduced price, then I can bid.

Or it may have a best offer available, where it is possible to offer a bit less.

But phorum junkie, maybe we are the last ones on ebay who follow these rules because apparently a lot of people do message sellers with offers to buy at a lower price. I was shocked when a friend was telling me about her experiences with a couple of items she listed.

If I were a seller, I would just wait to see if my item sold and if it didn',t then I might negotiate with a buyer & relist, but not before.

I meant to add, if you had asked for a discount, I would not have given it to you while the listing was active, but if I relisted at a lower price, there is no way I would block you as a buyer. It doesn't make sense. You are the very person who might buy it!

All of my listings are BINS without "or best offer" option included, but still get several offers each week. Sometimes up to 60 or 70% below listed price. I would like to reply to the bad ones with "Thanks for your #@***% offer you Di**^#$D, the answer is NO now P1$$- O*f " But of couse I dont. Instead I suck it up and Thank them for thier message and inform them that all prices are firm. Often they end up buying the item for full listed price anyway. It sounds like this seller is one of eBays "Strange ones "
