Buying a car through ebay motors is no different from buying one advertised in the local paper or seeing a For Sale sign in the car window. In pther words unless the seller is a dealer you have very few, if any, rights however if a deliberate fraud has been comitted and there may have been someting illegal about the plates it is worth going back to the seller and telling them you are prepared to return the car to get your money back but if they won't agree you are going to the police. You should always do all checks before you hand over the money.

Recently, I purchased a vehicle which was advertised as a genuine original Berlina Commodore (luxury level) with low k's. After checking into the vin identification/body option plates, I discovered the vehicle is actually an SL (standard) model, but looks like a berlina.

The advertisement for the car specified the car was all original and genuine, which is why I paid the amount I did. I feel like I have been ripped off because the car is actually a fake/non genuine.

Any comments or suggestions on what I can do would be appreciated.

As it would have been cash on pickup you had the right to not pay if the car was not as described.

All research should be done before purchasing.

Have you contacted the seller, are they a dealer?

Can you go to where you picked it up from?

Have you got their phone number?

Did you pay with cash or cheque?

If you paid by cheque then cancel it and this will get them to get in touch.

Yes I have all his details and been to his house to pick it up.

Do I have the right to ask for my money back or just cop it, due to myself not checking before hand.

The numbers on the body plates don't match what the car looks like, not even the right color

Seller portrayed item to be a genuine item.

(or too many movies?)

I'm not sure what avenue you pursue here, but perhaps ring the police and/or department of transport and/or the equivilent of RACQ in your state? (In qld, the RACQ has a service that answers questions and gives advixe about buying cars etc, so I assume other states work the same)

One of those may be able to advise you on where to go from here, and if in fact any of that is dodgy.
