I am sure people are not going to be interested to know that you did not read the terms and conditions of the site you have used to buy your dress, or the terms of the site you used to pay for it.

If you had even glanced at your paypal receipt you would have seen that you had 45 days in which to open a dispute. If you chose not to avail yourself of this free insurance it is not rally ebay or paypal's fault.

If you funded your paypal paymen with a credit card or Visa debit card you could try a chargeback through your bank.

geez folks, you're a bit rough, eh?

Yeah, yeah, the OP didn't know the rules, but they're not the first people to come here with a problem like this, eh? Before they didn't know, now they know. An expensive way to learn I should imagine. I'm not sure there's any need to stick the boot in, is there? I think that eBay banned keelhaulings for September!

But OP, the other posters are right. You really can't blame eBay for this at any time and in this case you can't blame PayPal either. Even though you weren't aware of the rules, they are there for you to read and are given to us often. I'm not sure how else you want eBay and PayPal to alert you of the rules of safe trading.

Be cross at the seller, keep in mind the 45 day limit for next time with PayPal, and the 60 day limit in which you can leave feedback if you desire - remember feedback is voluntary (no one can make you leave it if you don't want to) and it is there that you can tell others about your transaction experience.

One thing that you did do great that no one has commmented on, is that you tried to communicate with your seller and sort out the problem before leaving them a negative attitude. Lots of newer buyers don't do that, so kudos to you for that.

I think part of the trouble in here is that quite a lot of the people posting are experienced sellers.

Sometimes the consensus seems to be that a buyer should know to check out this and that and should have read every condition.

The plain fact is that people who are new to it all can and do miss things, even if they think they have had a look at the terms and conditions.

Now, I know about the 45 day limit, but I can't say I have ever noticed it written when I use paypal, I usually just see transaction approved, return to ebay.

Now I am not doubting for a moment it must be there, I am just saying I have never noticed it up there on the screen.

It's obvious that every condition will have an expiry limit, but I can understand how a person new to ebay could be strung along, could have goodwill and have the wrong thing done by them.

If they have a record in their messages of the seller asking several times for extensions, I can't see why ebay itself could not issue some sort of strike against the seller.

I realise that paypal may not be able to issue any refund, but if the written evidence is there of someone being strung along, an ebay strike would be fair.

The other thing I have found amongst my friends is none of them realised the bit about how if they had a dispute, they would need to pay for signed for postage of the item, back to the seller.

At a guess, I would say a majority of small time buyers are unaware of a lot of the conditions on ebay. That is not ebay's fault, but it might mean they could look to improve how the information is presented, or where it is presented.

To others it may seem to be stupid but some one has taught them the answer already at some stage, so why cant they just answer without the boots an snide remarks. For gods sake your adults not children people. Funny how hiding behind a computer screen makes some of these people Rambo's. If they tried that in a face to face confrontation the results may just get them into a whole world of bother and maybe a bruised nose with it. There will be the usual replies of "I say it to them face to face". Sorry but I simply wont believe you because I know and seen the type. Sad fact is they do have good answers but just have to stick in that snide remark for some reason. I would love to know the reasons for it myself.

I think the situation has deteriorated since Lithium took over moderating these boards and I directly attribute the increase in interpersonal disputes to the fact that the moderators very rarely remove posts any more, preferring to either edit offending posts themselves, or simply requesting that posters get back on topic, and in extreme cases, locking the thread completely.

Whatever happened to slaps and sanctions, because in the absence of any consequences for continuing bad behaviour, the offending posters are becoming more brazen in the knowledge that they're unlikely to be punished for their ill manners and rudeness.

It's about time the moderators started making examples of some of the worst offenders, and that should clean up the boards soon enough.

If you write feedback such as WARNING, FRAUDULENT SELLER, DON'T BUY, or the like, sometimes sellers are so anxious to remove that kind of feedback that they will issue you with the refund.

You can only do this if the seller really was fraudulent or really did do the wrong thing, because sellers still have the right to ask for revision if feedback is inappropriate.

But at the very least, you will be warning other buyers to keep an eye out and will feel better because you've vented.

Also, what's with the sarcastic, caustic comments? Not everyone understands the rules. People DO learn things the hard way. People have different sill levels when it comes to comprehending legal stuff like terms and conditions.

Also, I have had sellers try to trick me regarding the 45 day limit and try to confuse me. That IS fraud.

Dont buy dresses from China. Especially anything you may need to wear to a ball or a wedding. You will have a repeat situation to the one you have just experienced. If you need alterations more & more alteration services are refusing to work on gowns/dresses manufactured in China mainly due to the poor quality of the sewing, bad seams, cheap flimsy fabrics etc.

If you cant find your dress in OZ which is preferrable but not always possible, there are 2 really good online sellers in the USA who do great work and offer great after sales service. I have purchased gowns, dresses from them and so have many of my friends. They can easily be found thru google. Feel free to message me I am happy to give out their site address if you need it.

Looks like I'll have to take your word for it Crikey, as prior to Lithium's takeover of the boards, I could expect at least one moderation notice a week (whether justified or not), yet I've not seen one now for at least 3 or 4 months. Perhaps it's because CS is not a place I normally frequent these days... 😉
