Hi i am just wondering why eBay allows sellers to set up eBay stores claiming their items are located and shipped in places within Australia, however when you view the sellers ID and location they are based in places such as Hong Kong or China?

I recently bought an apple charger from a store that claimed to be located in NSW with super fast shipping (to receive item within 2-3 business days) over 2 weeks ago and am still waiting. I have since checked the seller's id and he is based in Hong Kong!!!

Shouldn't members have to stipulate where the item is located and being shipped from in their description?

Please Help an Advise.

Unfortunately, it happens lots.

Tip.

Look at the postage.

Minimum postage in Oz is $6.60 via Aust post.

If the sale amount does not cover this, a small amount for packaging, and the amount for item, it's an O/S posting for sure.

If the item says free shipping how are you to know? Shouldn't eBay have rules against this sort of thing? Technically item isn't as described because if you think you are buying from Australian sellers you SHOULD BE.

And the non-disclosing dropshippers who now say item location 'Sydney', for example, won't just find a Sydney postcode? They're already breaking the rules with impunity; what makes you think they will change?

It is usually pretty obvious from the feedback and delivery time DSR if a seller of cheap items with free postage is located overseas. I often find items from overseas arrive sooner than from a lot of domestic sellers who live on the other side of the continent and don't post until six days after payment clears.

If time is important then I go to a B&M store and would never rely on a posted item from anywhere arriving in under 2 weeks.

You can report the seller as Item Location Misrepresentation. It is already a policy the item location must reflect the actual location of the item.

As post 7 states, there is already this policy in place.
I almost bought an item, located "Melbourne, Australia" then reading the fine print within the description, found "Item shipping from Hong Kong warehouse. Please allow 10-20 working days for delivery"

On questioning the seller on this, whether the item was coming from Melbourne or HK, they replied the latter, then openly admitted it helps their items show in search results (See policy on search manipulation)

Report to Customer Support, receive the standard C/P reply, and seller still, to this day, shows item location - Melbourne, Australia 😐

While I havent had an issue with electronics' gear a friend of mine destroyed 2 iphones over the week end with a cheap cigarette lighter USB charger he bought from a local servo.

On pulling it apart and checking the internals it had a direct connection from the 12v straight to the USB plug, this put 12v into the 5v phone.

So buying cheap may end up costing a lot

Hello all,

I buy stuff on ccasions from a well known designer, B... (not sure if one is allowed to use names on the boards), from their official website, and whilst they don't really specify where the items would be comming from, they almost invariably come from Mauritius where they are made these days - so I guess they must have a dispatch centre there for online shopping.

It usually takes 2/3 days with F/dex to arrive.

I don't know about China, but have a friend, ex pat living in Singapore, and little gifts and other mail takes 2 days, just normal, nothing special.

Here, we post items same day they are paid, if before 2 pm. before the guy from PO comes to collect - and sometimes customers tell us they wait for the whole 6-7 days to receive them, mostly those in Tasmania and WA.

I don't know how much does it really matter where something is sent from as long as it's sent in a manner indicated in the listing, ie. Express, airmail, courier, that sort of thing. so one can roughly gauge when to expect it.

Thanks for confirming what I said Hawk, licensed resellers only or direct from the manufacturer.

This is doubly so for laptops, a new lead is usually very expensive but that is because if you buy the right one from an authorised source and it fries your machine you can claim for collateral damage. If a cheapo generic lead fries it then you will be paying for a new laptop, an expensive way to get a new lead.
