ebay New Zealand has disappeared !!!!!!!

There used to be a seller in New Zealand with listings on ebay au and I haven't seen them for a while so decided to check out the New Zealand site BUT when I click on New Zealand at the bottom of the au home page I end up on the US site.

Does ebay still have a New Zealand site?

As far as I am aware, NZ never had its own ebay site.

They have TradeMe.

I didn't think NZ had their own site, either, but I can see it's listed as having one on the home page.

A lot of links on the Australian site now take you straight to pages on the US site, discovered that the other day after clicking a few links on the Oz site map.

The New Zealand link at the bottom of the home page used to take you to the the NZ ebay site and I have done a search for the seller's ID and it doesn't exist.

apparently there once was an ebay new zealand site. But because Trademe was so strong, ebay ditched new zealand....jilly

Not sure if there is or ever was an eBay NZ but within the past day or two I remember seeing a seller listed in New Zealand, so they presumably still have access.

A few years ago I had a spout of NZ customers, and when i asked one of them about goods available on ebay NZ, they said that there use to be a healthy ebay NZ but then ebay changed all the rules, including making Paypal the only form of payment (funnily enough just before they tried to do it to us here) - and the whole thing basically went down the toilet....

Did anyone notice the title of this thread?

It is referring to the eBay New Zealand site disappearing.

In order for me to claim that it has disappeared one would reasonably assume that I knew the site did exist at some time in the past YET there have been 6 different posters respond and 3 of those 6 doubt there ever was an eBay site in New Zealand.

Am I not using a language everyone is familar with, are my threads appearing as gobblygook to everyone?

There used to be a New Zealand ebay site and now I can't find it anymore.

I did not doubt that the NZ site ever existed, I just said that I wasn't aware there was one.

Prior to answering in this thread, I actually spent a decent chunk of time googling for more information - I checked for eBay NZ and got so few hits it wasn't funny. I found a two year old thread on another forum where someone IN New Zealand was asking if NZ had their own eBay site. A link to the site was posted, I clicked it and it took me to the US site just like the one on the home page.

I googled for recent news in New Zealand related to eBay, trying to find someone, anyone talking online about it no longer existing (if anyone had mentioned it either in a news article or even a quick Twitter post, I would have found it, but this thread was the only result.

I looked for complete lists of eBay sites replete with hyperlinks and saw the NZ site appeared to be a sub-domain of .com (US site), so figured it - like the others - would just take me to the US site.

The one and only reference to eBay NZ on wikipedia is that it failed due to the established popularity of the T-M site, as previously mentioned.

It's not that I doubt your claim, it's that there is absolutely no information that can be found / provided via the means I generally use to find out things I don't know. I thought the fact that many links to pages on AU eBay now go directly to the .com counterpart was, in a round-about way - relevant, though perhaps I should have explained why and taken the offers of a tin foil hat that were sure to result. :8}

Years ago, maybe 13 years ago I do remember an eBay New Zealand. I think it was www.ebay.co.nz. I remember looking for listings there and there were a few things there. Only a porttion of what eBay Australia has. I could search on ebay NZ just like I can on ebay UK etc. I tried again 8 years ago or so and it was gone. I wonder if it was because Trademe took off.

I hope they resurrect ebay NZ. It would be good too. That would mean more sellers using PayPal.

Come to think of it, what has happened to Yahoo auctions, have they gone now?

Whether the new source is legitimate probably no longer matters after this amount of time.

I can't resist asking.....what difference would ebay NZ make to paypal? The few sellers that may join would only be a drop in the ocean to paypal.
