I've been ebaying for donkey's years and I'm keen on sewing, but NOT quilting. It's incredibly frustrating trawling through thousands of ads for fabric to find some that is not handkerchief size (AKA fat quarter). Isn't it about time "Fabric" was split into separate categories for sewing and quilting. As it is I've pretty much given up looking for fabric on ebay!

There are a lot of problems with searching for items in the craft section but those problems are no different to searching items on most of eBay.

What about craft books?

They are in the book section and the craft section.

In the craft section they can be in the craft they directly relate to or they can be in the craft books section.

Then there are about 3 possibilities in the books section.

So lets sort out the craft books, craft magazines and pattern leaflets for all crafts at the same time as dealing with fat quarters.

I totally agree with the fabric! You can get around it slightly by

putting into search 1 yard/metre, but you will still get heaps of FQ's.

And very true with the craft books, thats a real pain!

Absolutely agree rollon2012 and bump!! I live in a regional area with v little access to material and craft books. It takes forever to scroll thru the fabrics to find metre-age. Even when you select the metres/yards option, you still get heaps and heaps of quilting FQs!! Thank you for raising this frustrating issue for us. I think sewing is a dying craft and lack of access to products is killing it off quicker - what a shame!

The fat quarters would be easy to solve, just make them list in the quilting section, that is, if fat quarters are only searched for by quilters.

I do fairly basic sewing and never want to buy fat quarters so lets start up a protest movement to rid the material section of fat quarters.

Unfortunately ebay ignore any protestsX-( Fortunately some sellers do list in lengths and this makes it much easier to find what I'm looking for. I buy a reasonable amount of fabric on ebay and rarely buy "bits", so I do understand the frustration of some buyers.:-)

When you put your keywords in the search, at the end of it, key in - quilting.

(Thats the minus sign, no space, quilting).

Any listings with the word quilting in them will go away.

Agree 100%.

I do craft (dolls clothes not quilting) and I sew for myself. Fat quarters are fine for dolls clothes, but when looking for fabric by the metre or yard so much time is wasted filtering out the small pieces stuff.

Honestly, it's probably quicker to get in my car and drive to Spotlight. 🙂

I come from an old world when we called fabric 'material'.

When you do a search for dress material, then on the left hand side it shows 'fabric' - I click on that and don't see any quilting fabric... At least not in the first few listings. 🙂

I don't know if it is the same in craft but in books I have to pay a fee to be more specific.

All you get free is fiction non-fiction etc, I wanted to put in cookbook for example instead of using non-fiction and found it cost an additional fee.

All that used to be free by the way!

Now money is grubbed from anywhere they can.....
