The seller should be able to just refund the payment you sent her , in her PayPal account your payment will have an option for it to be refunded .

But yes otherwise it is safe to send them your email address for your PayPal account .

I purchased an itme from an ebay seller and pid for it through pay pal. The seller has since informed me that the itme had been previoulsy sold to someone else and she forgot to remove the item. She wants to refund me the amount I paid, she is asking for my Pay pal id, is this the usual way you go about a refund ? Should I be concerned ?

If they don't use the refund option then you are both going to be out of pocket as you will be charged for receiving a payment that isn't a direct refund and the seller will not get back the Paypal fee they paid when they got your payment.

They also leave themmselves open to being scammed as technically you could open an item not received dispute through the original transaction and you would win.

If the seller's PayPal account has a balance, the seller can send you money as a gift with no fees for either the seller or a buyer. If their PayPal account does not have a balance sufficient enough to do a refund, then there will be a charge depending on where the money will be drawn from to make the refund.

The seller know's your email anyway as when you make a payment, your email will be visible on the invoice.

Ask them to log into their PayPal account, locate the transaction and there is a button "refund". This is the proper way to do a refund as phorum has noted. The seller then should send you a mutual cancelation request.
