not looking after customers

I have been here few yrs, have a 100% honesty reliability rate as does many......I do not ever charge extra on postage. It has now got to the point where I am leaving positive feedback and not getting any feedback at all in return even tho I paid for item within 5 minutes of winning or buying item. The amount of money being added to postage is disgusting... over $10 extra on too many occasions. Sadly...I cannot trust doing business on ebay......the best way to keep customers coming back is to be honest, don't overcarge on postage be courteous by replying to all mssages about transaction. for the past few rs I have refused to buy an item from anyone with less than 100%. Now those with 100% are not being so reliable /fair/decent.

Have enjoyed my time on ebay, time to rethink using this service.

Unfortunatly your concerns are shared by many. As ebay has grown, the original company philosophies of community, honesty, sharing etc. have been eroded in search of the almighty dollar. Ebay allowing Chinese junk sellers to dominate listings, lack of protection for sellers, allowing unscrupulous scam- artist sellers to flourish, discouraging the general public from selling with higher listing fees, constant unnecessary changes to systems etc. has eroded peoples confidence in the system. I think this contributes to the "low care factor" many feel about ebay. Unfortunatly in many ways, ebay may be slowly killing the goose that lays the golden eggs. I just hope it stays alive long enough to see me through to retirement. I hope you will stay with us. If all of the "good people" go, who will be left ??

Your complaints about feedback are not supported by your profile records.....you have received 186 feedback but only left 175.

Hi.... if that was the case then would apologise , but on my screen I have 167 feedback, still waiting on feedback this week. I'm sorry you see an extra 19 feedbacks for me..I clearly need to go to ebay as to where they all went from my profile.

Ty, I see the same as Lyndal, 186 received and 175 left by you, possibly you're getting confused with the 167 that's showing on your profile - which is different from total feedback left, since any multiple feedback from the same seller in a 7 day period will only give you 1 addition to your profile total.

Why do you want buyer feedback? It tells a member nothing except that you have bought an item from a seller who leaves feedback.

Your feedback 'score' is lower than the number you have received because of multiple buys from the same seller, unless they are more than 7 days apart they only count as one.

I wouldn't have a clue how many feedback I had on my buying accounts, I couldn't say for sure how many I have for my selling accounts either unless I went and looked. As long as I have enough that shows a buyer I am a good bet to buy from why should it matter?

I am on ebay to buy and sell things, not to collect pretty coloured dots on my computer screen.

As fo0r only charging cost for postage I would view that with suspicion, if I see a seller is not charging anything for their packaging or time that gives me the impression they are not using quality materials and are just shoving the items in a satchel without much care. You are doing yourself out of some money anyway, I add a packaging and handling charge and I have a perfect 5 for my postage star.

Those that only buy on eBay will all have 100% feedback rating as sellers can only leave their buyers positive feedback . . . . . and this makes the 100% rating nothing to do with the honesty of the buyer. If no sellers left you feedback for a whole year your rating would drop to 0% . . . . . . once again this would not be a comment on your honesty rating. If you bought 150 items in a year and only got feedback for one feedback your rating would be 100%. This is why I am saying that buyer feedback has nothing to do with honesty, I'm not having a go at you personally.

Your last feedback as a seller was back in '08, so I'm not sure what your "I do not ever charge extra on postage" comment is about.

It is a bit puzzling that you are missing out on just about all your feedback.

Over the last few months, I have been buying things from sellers who obviously were running their own small business on ebay.

They would have the shop, dozens of items, that sort of thing. They didn't all have 100% positive feedback but some of the negs and neutrals looked to be left by drongos anyway so that didn't bother me.

In every case (from memory, anyway) those sellers were quick to leave me feedback. The regular sellers just seem to.

Sometimes the 'home' seller mightn't but I don't let it worry me.

I always think once you get feedback over about 50, you've established a record anyway, so don't worry.

As for postage, I don't mind a little extra added for handling and supplies. If I were selling, I would charge for it too.

It is a shame that some sellers who do the wrong thing can spoil it for the rest of us.

I have been able to buy some fantastic items here but on the other hand I have also seen some sellers who I do not trust and would not go near. You just have to be careful who you buy from and who much money you are willing to spend.

If you really think someone has overcharged on postage question them about it and see if they react. Some people will reduce their postage costs if you stand up to them and prove they are overcharging you.

In any online shopping area like ebay, Gumtree, Etsy there will be some sellers who are fantastic and some who are dreadful.

and the best time to question a seller about postage is before you bid or buy. Once you bid or buy you are accepting the postage charge as listed by the seller UNLESS you have messaged them and got a commitment towards a lower price.

As far as "standing up to them and prove they are overcharging you", sellers are under no obligation to reduce the price of postage once you have committed to buy. If you can prove to a seller that they are overcharging on postage before committing to bidding/buying that will not get you anything except maybe being put on their Blocked Bidder List as they may feel that you would be a problem buyer should you eventually buy from them. Proving they are overcharging on postage after committing to buy is wrong, as the act of committing to buy is an acceptance of the postage rate.

Members may feel that sellers have a moral or ethical obligation to offer genuine combined postage rates, but these are not concepts that eBay impose as a pre-condition for being able to sell on eBay. If you ask the seller a question and get the run-around regarding combined postage or postage rates then my best advice is do not buy from that seller.

Now, having already posted once on this thread, I will point out that there have been threads on here before where a buyer has complained about combined postage by a seller. The usual line is:

"I asked about combined postage before the end of the listing and the seller said they do combine postage and then they try to charge me the full postage on both items for sending in one package" because some sellers interpret combined postage as simply putting multiple items in one satchel/box

. . . . . . OR . . . . .

"I asked about combined postage before the end of the listing and the seller said they do offer discounts for combine postage and then they only give me 50 cents discount for both items for sending in one package" because some sellers will reduce postage by only a small amount for combined posting.

For multiple items sent in the one parcel/satchel/box you need to get a committment of a postage price from a seller before committing to buy to be sure that the postage rate will be acceptable to you, otherwise you are leaving it purely to chance that there will be a fair posting cost.

As a buyer I too use too think that the postage cost's of some seller's was high but as a newbie seller I came to realise that most of the time they were reasonable. it takes time to wrap and pack not to mention the trip to the post office then the postage itself it all cost's money.

As for a buyer's/seller's rating who really cares about the score (unless it's really bad) it's the feed back that counts and how the other person has reacted to it.
