Sellers blocking buyers

I have had two sellers block me from buying from them just recently for no apparent reason. Anybody else having the same problem? It would be nice and courteous for the seller to let you know beforehand before you go ahead and try and do a purchase. Not happy.

You don't have any unpaid item disputes against your name?

That would be about the only reason I can think of for a seller having you on an automatic block, unless you were trying to buy from overseas and they don't sell to Australia?

If a seller has blocked a buyer from purchase manually (that is, put your user ID on their blocked bidder list), I personally wouldn't expect them to message them to say so - it might be informative, but it could be construed other ways, and a seller doesn't really need to explain why they don't wish to deal with someone.

There can be a lot of different reasons why a seller might manually block someone. For example, I sometimes block members after reading what they post in the forums....and I never tell them that I have, though I might occasionally hint at it.

Sellers have a range of options available to automatically block buyers. The two most commonly used are two or more non payment strikes over a set period of time and accounts which have not gone through the phone verification process, but others are also available. . These blocks are the only real protection ebay offers sellers against unscupulous buyers who bid on items, never to make contact again and refuse payment even after going through dispute resolution. The second is unverified zero feedback accounts, set up as second accounts by buyers who have already been blocked. Do you have two or more unpaid strikes against your account ??? .

If it is two sellers then chances are you have come up against a sellers automatic block list because of one of the criteria. I have better things to do than spend my time emailing the many buyers who populate my BBL and if they are coming up against an auto block how would I know in advance that they were blocked.

If you are not happy with eBay's policy to allow sellers to block buyers for no apparant reason without giving notice, you need to take that up with eBay and suggest a change of policy.

Some of them get shirty if you ask too many questions, well Im a buyer and that is my perogative to ask questions about an item, postage etc so there. If you cant stand the heat stay out of the kitchen.

I guess some people want to stay in the kitchen and keep cookin', but sometimes close the door....

I'm not saying you shouldn't ask questions - asking questions is a good thing - but just as it's cool for a buyer to ask questions and / or decide not to buy from a seller, it's cool for a seller to decide they don't want someone to buy from them.

If you don't like a seller's attitude you would avoid buying from them, wouldn't you?

The same goes for sellers...if they don't like a buyer's attitude they may block them.

No I am very broad minded. I would still buy from seller regardless of attitude. Im buying an item not a seller. Get your facts straight. The customer is always right. We are a sellers bread and butter. I certainly wouldnt be rude or offensive to a seller. Then you would be blovked and probably for good.

That is a business philosophy, not a mandate, and there are many ways it can be interpreted / implemented...if, and that's a BIG if, a seller chooses to subscribe to that philosophy.

OK, I've resisted the4 urge all day, but someone has got to point out the elephant in the room.

Michelle, is it a chance, that the sellers who have blocked you have seen some of your posts on the discussion boards. (remember lots have a few selling accounts and a posting account, so you might not recognize them by their posting ID)

It's just that, whilst you would never be rude or offensive to a seller, sometyimes some of your posts do come across a little bit blunt. I'm sure that you don't mean them to, but well, they do, and text is so hard to interpret people's true intentions.

So maybe you've just been blocked by a few sellers who don't realize you won't be blunt to them when you're trading with them.

But meh, what's it matter, right? There are 1,000's of sellers on eBay, if some don't want your money, just move onto the next one. It's their loss, right?

Who are you telling to get their facts straight....you have actually replied to yourself?

If it is me, the I think I have got my facts straight....you asked why sellers may have blocked you, right? I have told you of a possible reason. Maybe some sellers would prefer to have their bread without butter at times.

I have had a quick look at previous threads started by you and some of your posts on other threads and I think that a lot of sellers might have put you on their blocked bidders list after they read your threads and posts.

You say you have been blocked "no apparent reason" but I would have to disagree, the attitude you displayed on those threads was a "very apparent reason" for some to block you.

Michelle i just hope you realise there are many reasons why you may (or may not) end up on a sellers BBL, but just to let you know buyers can also perform the same trick by modifying your criteria to EXCLUDE certain sellers items from even showing up in your searches.

michelle, just letting you know that you are on my blocked bidder list . . . . . . but then again . . . . . . just about everybody that posts on these forum boards is on my BBL. I don't ever want to be accused of posting to advertise my items, so I can't sell to those on my BBL.

I suspect that I am on some member's BBLs, and I'm fine with that as I respect a seller's right to block whoever they like for whatever reason they like.

"The customer is always right" I respectfully disagree, the customer is not always right, especially not when dealing with casual sellers.

"We are a sellers bread and butter" not every seller, especially not a casual seller or any seller that is not dependant upon eBay selling for an income.

Not just not my bread and butter, not even my cup of tea !
