Why is it when you enter a search key word, like 'fridge" and when you ask for items located within 10km of a postcode, eg. a postcode in NSW that you get items for sale in Qld and Vic being returned? Such a search shouldn't be hard but it seems to be beyond me.

Don't blame yourself. Ebay's search by distance function is notoriously buggy and inaccurate.
