Can I please get your opinions? I haven't received my item so obviously i will wait until i have received my item to make sure it's all aok but this is the experience i have had with this seller so far

1. Purchased item 4/8 and paid via paypal same day

Received no communication from buyer so 4 days later I asked when and if my item had been posted, seller replied i'll post tomorrow I always post on a Friday (nothing in auction about this at all) - annoyed by this but decided to let it go.

2. Contacted seller asking for the tracking number, heard nothing.

3. Contacted seller again today (14/8) asking again re tracking number, seller replied with "Hi was just enquiring what your need for a tracking number would be"

4. I replied with "The rule is when paid by paypal you must provide a tracking number - it is a week now since you have posted my item and i havent received it - not sure why you need a reason for my request re the tracking number as it should be provided - ebay actually has a place to enter it? But if you do - i am going away soon and would like to know whereabouts my parcel is
Thank u"

They have now replied with "Yes that is the rule however I have not sent it with a tracking number. Your item will arrive with you shortly if not this week. There is no need for a tracking number which is why I didn't get one"

I am so annoyed! I NEVER leave bad feedback - hubby has left a neutral for a terrible seller but that's it. This person is a terrible seller in my opinion with dreadful communiciation and as for the "there is no need for a tracking number....."

So, should I leave neutral feedback which is what I am leaning towards or if the item is perfect should i still leave positive?

Thoughts?

Whilst it is nice to see where your parcel is - it is really the Seller that needs the Tracking Number.

A Tracking Number is the Sellers Protecrion in the event the parcel never arrives. They can prove to Paypal that they have posted it if you open an Item not Received dispute.

Paying by Paypal is the Buyers Protection as if the parcel never arrives - and the Seller has not provided a Tracking Number - then you will receive your money back.

So if you don't get your item you will receive refund through the dispute process as there is no Tracking Number and no proof off postage.

As for feedback - that really needs to wait until you receive your item,

Is it the kind of item that would be sent as a parcel, or a large letter? Most parcels have a tracking number assigned; it's not optional they just have them (the exception is for high volume selllers on contract with Aus Post).

Large letters need to be registered to be assigned a tracking number, and that is optional.

There is no requirement for a tracking number, not in general, but a seller will need some form of proof of post in order to defend an INR and/or qualify for PayPal's Seller Protection.

All that being said, the seller seems a bit lax, at best. IMHO they should be willing and able to provide you with the requested information, or ideally a slightly more informative response, confirming postage of the item. Having been 10 days since purchase and presumably posted on the 8th, I would personally give it at least until Monday before taking further action. If the item was definitely going to require being sent as a parcel, however, my suspicions would be a little bit higher after the seller's claim that they didn't get a tracking number.

As to feedback - I personally don't like to advise the colour of the dot, but I will say it's best to leave that decision until the transaction has been finalised in one way or another.

All parcels (pre-paid and other packages) all have tracking numbers, this is standard Australia Post policy and tracking numbers don't cost any more. the tracking number is either on the removable part of the sticker on a pre-paid bag or printed on the post label on the packaged item and printed onto the payment receipt you get.

i would file a paypal claim and wait a few more days too see if it comes, then choose either neutral or negative feedback and score all the stars at 1 or 0.

I have recently had a bad experience where I purchased 2 items and haven't received them after 14 days, messages had gone unanswered, so I opened a paypal dispute and then get a nasty message from the seller. I waited 2 more days to get the item then left negative feedback. I won't go into details but the seller sent threatening emails that have been reported to ebay (ebay have blocked the seller) and filed a report with the police. (SAPOL).

Don't let dodgy sellers bully you, 5-7 days is long enough to wait for an item or get communication,

cheers, Lynda.

There are a couple of issues I can see with this.

First is the communication. The seller sounds a bit offhand.

You asked for a tracking number and had no reply. Then you asked again on 14/8 and got a reply that the item should arrive in the next week. I am surprised that the seller didn't pick up on the fact that someone asking for a tracking number is really code for-I don't have my item, is it in its way, where is it? They didn't do much to reassure you, they were too busy defending themselves.

Now let's see. They said they would post on 8th Aug. I would question if they actually did, because I would find it odd that the item has not arrived within a week.

Maybe if one of you lives in some remote area it might take longer but I have found in most cases, items arrive within a week of being posted.

So we have a couple of issues-fairly slow to post item (still hasn't arrived)

-not all that great at communication

Hang out for the item. If it doesn't come within the next week, I would lodge an item not received dispute and you would win it because the seller hasn't bothered to send the item with proof of postage.

If the item does arrive and you are happy with it, perhaps a negative would be too harsh, but a neutral would be perfectly understandable. You could write something such as good item but slow to post and poor communication, so ther buyers know just what the issues were.

But it really comes down to how you feel about it.

I have sometimes avoided giving any feedback when i have been unhappy but I am now starting to think that isn't the right attitude. What good is feedback if it doesn't give a true picture? I would try to be fair but if you aren't happy with some aspects, a neutral is perfectly reasonable.

I would just wait and see how you feel once you have the item within the next week, although low DSR on communication and postage for starters. And if the item comes and it is what you expected then see how you feel about the whole experience you have had with the seller and take it from there don't worry about it now.

No item within the next week then open dispute and I think then you will also know what your feeling and what kind of feedback your gonna leave.

Good Luck hope everything goes well!!!

"The rule is when paid by paypal you must provide a tracking number"

Sorry to ask a tangental question here but I have never been aware of the obligation to provide a tracking number.

Am I missing something here ?

If so, can anyone provide a link where this requirement is actually stated ?

I often sent items that are small and light enough to go as letters and that postage option doesn't have tracking numbers as part of the basic cost. In order to track these items you have to send them as registered mail, adding of course to the overall postage cost.

Betty, I think the poster means - Must provide tracking to have protection.

Many sellers especially from USA state you must have tracking if paid by PayPal, but it's the seller saying, I don't accept PayPal without tracking for their own protection.

I wouldn't dream of being as offhand as this seller. However, if you get your item within the 2-7 business days, as per Australia post guidelines, I don't think it's worthy of a negative. Negatives are the worst feedback you can give, and should be spared for genuine scammers - when you don't receive your item and the seller is not prepared to give a refund.

Just my opinion. It worries me people on these boards are so ready with 'neg 'em' attitude. The fact is, you are affecting someones business and livelihood for a full 12 months. Why? Is it worth putting a red dot on a sellers feedback for 12 months because you felt they were offhand? Or if the item was two business days late? Or if it didn't look quite as you imagined? (Not accusing the OP of these, just they are common reasons for giving negatives, and for other posters to advise giving a negative).

At the end of the day you could mark them down for communication, but if you receive your item there is really nothing else wrong with the transaction.

Umm , I hope the seller is an authorised dealer , otherwise if you need to claim on warranty you may be in strife. I know Polar won't honour warranty from eBay sellers unless they are authorised dealers.
