Aust Post a joke

Purchased a brand name phone from China from a reputable seller, who done the right thing and had it sent out in an instant. Left China on Tues last week and was at Sydney customs and cleared on Thurs. The carrier was DHL, which I paid $26 to use. That was all excellent service in anyones opinion. Then on the same day, Thurs, the phone was handed over to Aust post for delivery to me.

I do aknowledge that I do live in a country area of NSW, but I am peed that I can't expect the phone until Wed this week, almost a week from Sydney Aust to a NSW country town. What a joke, two days from China, then a week once it landed here.

Yes, Aust post, I can see where you are losing money, get rid of the carrier pidgeons and get some upto date transport happening.

You are lucky you are getting it at all. Presumably if AP are dealing with it correctly and the customs form identified what was in the parcel it will only travel within Australia by road, it cannot go by air. In many countries you cannot send anything to Australia that contains a lithium battery unless you use a specialist courier service which usually starts at over $100. China post obviously ignores the rules and allows the things to be sent but don't blame AP if they stick to their own policies.

Would be by road anyway, between Sydney and country NSW, so the lithium battery issue doesn't come into it. I am aware of these rules but for this delivery my gripe still stands.

Yep they got me this week too...ordered bubblewrap out of Sydney early Tues morning 18th, picked up on Tues 18th, processed through Australia Post Underwood Queensland on 19th, been sitting at Kearney Springs Toowoomba since last Thursday 20th....called them wanting to know why it hasn't been delivered as it is 5 minutes down the road from me....after sitting on the phone for 1/2 hour, the girl says there is nothing she can do! Good service as far as I am concerned says ring Kearny Springs and ask them why it hasn't been delivered...I would go and pick it up but the facility is not open to the public...so frustrating! All I want is for it to be delivered...in a normal business situation, you would just organise the delivery and find out why it is still sitting there....it called 'Just Do It'!

The new regulations relating to Lithium batteries come into force on January 1, 2015 but they relate specifically to Lithium Metal batteries and NOT Lithium Ion, which is by far the type most commonly used in electronic devices. Because there is going to be a great deal of confusion come next January, I suggest you read the following and familiarise yourself with it.

JOKE in not a strong enough word. PATHETIC comes to mind. Australia Post took five working days to send a parcel from South Brisbane to North Brisbane. Forty years ago, living in Melbourne, I used to get mail from Brisbane the next day. Times certainly have changed!

Although that may have happened to you, it's definitely the exception to the rule. Parcel deliveries over such short distances are generally performed with 24-48 hours at the most, as they are only handled by the one distribution centre.

I am waiting to see when the buyer of some DVD's tells me they have arrived.

Melbourne to Hamilton in Western victoria.

I would EXPECT them to have arrived by today, Thursday or at the latest Friday.

I assume they were posted Monday so would have caught the evening collection to the local DC, in which case they could have been delivered in Hamilton as early as Wednesday, but will more likely be delivered on Thursday, and definitely no later than Friday at the very latest, as you say.

Yes, Monday. I should have put that in the original post.

It will be interesting to see. From experience, Hamilton is a bit like Wagga Wagga, big enough but just far enough off the beaten path

that it slows things down. Horsham on the other hand, being on the major Melb - Adelaide Highway is a bit better.

To be honest, it doesn't worry me that much that Aust Post can be a bit slow, I just wish they were consistent.

4 days to Hamilton every time would be fine for me.

Darwin is another one. I send most stuff to NT (Not ebay stuff) Express Post, 3kg, 5kg Satchels because it goes

by Air to Darwin, then road to whereever.

I have had mail take a week to get from Hamilton to Coleraine, 32 kilometres. Yet my sister has in the past sent a parcel on Friday from Adelaide and it arrived three days later on Monday in Coleraine

Thanks wilk. Even though I'm originally from Victoria, I'd never heard of Coleraine so I looked it up on the map. Can't be too bad 'cos at least it's on the way to somewhere (between Hamilton & Mt Gambier). 🙂

That's about right.

When I passed through the "township" on my way to my mates place, I was past it before I knew it !!!

It really is a "blink and you will miss it" type place.

BTW, the 2 people I know are relatives - it MIGHT be a bit like Tasmania (but without the two heads !)

You'd know all about that wouldn't you ??????
