I'd definately say it's a scam!Have had no comunication since saying no to deposit only paypal. That was on7th have sent multipule messages asking for photo of all 3 machines or reciept.Have stated will not pay until they get back to me and answer a few questions.Sent 1 saying Please reply so we can finish this transaction but none has been answered.I have given them long enough to reply so I'll leave feed back and see what happens with the whole thing.

I am just a bit sus of my seller. He had an item up for 295 I bid 270 got accepted straight away.Ok now in blurb he says that he wants bank deposit.Feeling wary anyway so say no will do pay pal Friday .He says can't wait that long put$100 deposit in bank now.So I say no Ill pay pay pal today. What do you think? It just seems dicey so should I pay him by pay pal and see what happens .Just abit worried it's a scam and I will be left waiting for pay pal to sort everything out and I'll miss out on others as I will have no money to spare .It is a laptop for daughter at school.

DO NOT pay with bank deposit, you have no buyer protection should something go wrong.
If the seller won't accept it then move on to one that will. If the said seller wants to cancel the sale if he doesn't accept paypal then I wouldn't agree to that either. If he has to pay the fees on the sale he might stop requesting bank deposit

There is no paypal protection for a pick up item if you go that way. You should inspect thoroughly and if satisfied pay cash at time of pick up. No offence meant but do you have a fairly good knowledge of computers? If you pay and get it home then something is not working correctly you are on your own and you have blown your money. As stated retailers are falling over each other at the present time with deals and you get warranty. IMO I would go to a B&M.

Apart from the shannanigans with the seller, which would make me run a mile, it's a false economy to buy a second hand computer unless it's from a professional refurbisher with AT LEAST a 30 day warranty (but I would recommend more) - somewhere you can take it back to.

There are loads of things that can go wrong with a 2nd hand computer that may not crop up straight away, like bad sectors on the HDD, failing graphic cards, etc. Sometimes the problem is not obvious without being a computer tech and can take loads of time to diagnose.

Best to get a computer from a B&M, even if it costs a bit more so you can get on-going support and warranty.

How much in store is one of those?

Wait for other replies from other posters, but i would not bid or buy from a 1fb member with such a lousy listing. His story about having 3 of them & doesn't need 2 is possibly carp too.Dunno but i like none of it.
I do not like his push for the $ & part bank dep now & the rest you said.

I would ask to cancel or face an unpaid item strike before dealing with him.I get a bad feeling about this but then I'm in a funny mood today.

Wait a few hours for other posters to give an opinion before you decide anything ok

No matter what the seller says he has to accept Paypal and he has to give you 4 days before he can open a dispute and then another 4 before he can close it so insisting on a bank deposit payment straight away makes it look very shonky. Of course it could be a newbie seller who has read all the bad press Paypal gets on the boards and assumes most buyers will try to scam him.

If they will allow pick up then tell them you are prepared to pay cash after you have seen the computer up and running but if they want to post it then you will pay by Paypal in full.

Do not under any circumstances pay anything into their bank account.

Oh ok, have checked the listing now. Sorry I mistook that we were talking about a second-hand computer.

If it is that new, the warranty should be transferable. I'm pretty sure with Australian law that warranties are transferable with goods sold, but others will correct me. Would be worth asking. You could also give ASUS a call. On a side note, I bought an ASUS tablet off Kogan a while back which needed repairing under warranty - was advised to go to ASUS directly and just needed proof of purchase. Definitely worth investigating this.

If you go and pick it up check the seals are all in place etc. If definitely not opened and he can give you a copy of the receipt for warranty, and the warranty is transferable, then to be honest, I would buy it.

I've bought much more expensive electronics on ebay, no problems.

Offer to pick up the item with cash only. As others have said, if you pick up the item you do not have any buyer protection from Paypal anyway if you do choose to pay with Paypal. Your only hope is to get a chargeback from your bank if you funded the payment with a credit card, I'm not really clear how successful that would be.

His demand for a deposit is just blustering, there isn't much he can really do about cancelling the transaction without copping fees and defects right now - you have a few days up your sleeve. Just give a specific soonish date when you can collect it and should be fine, if he's a half decent person. I think he just has trust issues because of the amount of money involved.
