I am posting on this forum to let people know how I feel about this private purchase of a sideboard that was advertised on eBay.

The sideboard was advertised on eBay as being approx 2.5 meters and because the description of the size was what I wanted, I made a bid. Before the auction ended, REMOVED contacted me about a second buyer who was also interested and asking if I was willing to beat him. I did and to show I was genuinely interested, I transferred the money the very same day.
That night while I was browsing through eBay I saw another one that looked exactly the same but with different measurements. I enquired about it and Sharon replied that it was only an estimation that she put on.

I don't know what's your definition of approximation is but to me the difference between 2.5m and 1.8m is too big to call it an approximation.

It's like going to a shop and pay for something but only get 2/3 of what you paid for.

REMOVE told me that she lost bidders because she pulled the list off eBay already. I offered that she could keep part of the money and refund the rest back to me. She refused.

I can provide the communication between her and me and I only wish no other ebayer has to go through what I went through with codyclarke13.

Maybe I was too trusting in vendors. Maybe I expected more from people selling things. There was probably no other buyer. It certainly wasn't 2.5m long. 30% error is not an approximation. It was a mistake. A mistake that she should have paid for - not me. Do not trust her. Her word means nothing.

you are going to get slapped by the moderators shortly for naming and shaming on the boards.

Your mistake was, well everything.

You don't pay for pickup items via paypal and bank deposit is just giving your money away as there is absolutely no buyer protection. You should have just let the auction run it's course and been done with it. Do not get into bartering with sellers outside of ebay.

You are best paying cash for pick up items and if they are not as described you simply walk away and you've lost nothing.

You should also read a seller's feedback before bidding/purchasing anything

OP, Did you get the money back? If not I would send a message stating you have had advice and that she is breaking the law by keeping all the funds and not providing you with a product.

Tell her if you don't have a refund within 24 hours all her details will be given to ACORN.

Also pull her details in eBay.

Select advanced next to search then find contact info. You will be emailed her details and she gets yours.

I don't think there was sarcasm. I think it was a case of "Oh yes, more than a year ago, that's why I didn't notice them in the feedback summary (which only shows neut/negs for the last 12 months)

Thanks for the comment. I am going to let this one go but it's a valuable lesson learned on eBay. Never too trusting! In saying that, all the previous ebay sellers I have encountered have been so good.

Did you still go and pick the sideboard up? If not, go and get it because that's a LOT of money to just "let go". Sadly, while most sellers are honest, there are some that shouldn't be trusted, therefore, you have to go in with eyes wide open most of the time. NEVER pay via bank deposit, regardless of what the seller says. If they say PayPal is broken, tell them to fix it.

NEVER accept an offer to buy off eBay as you lose buyer protection. ALWAYS pay cash for pick up items. That way you can inspect the item and if it's not as described, you can walk away with your money still in your pocket.

She sounds to me like a used car salesman "you'd better buy today because I have 6 other people who are really interested".

I hope you are going to leave appropriate feedback for this seller. I would also make it known when you leave the star rating that it most certainly was not as described.
