I was going to start collecting vintage swap cards , and I hope the BUYER who wins every Auction READS THIS.

Your Bidding ID is easy to find all you do is type in the number at the winning auction and then type into SWAP CARD SELLERS SHOP and you appear

PLEASE STOP YOUR GREED FOR NEW COLLECTORS

BUYERS that prevent new collectors from starting a new collection and THINK that the poor Novice buyer will only buy the scraps that YOU sell at super Inflated prices HOW GREEDY and sad you are.!!!!!!!

Not ONLY do you turn away new people from starting a collection but you are shooting your self in the foot as eventually no one will buy your cards and you will end up with all the swap cards and no one wanting to collect.

Over the last 3 weeks you have won all the vintage swap card auctions and I and a few others can not be bothered collecting vintage swap cards because of you .

YOU make the average collector so NO I CAN NOT BE BOTHERED COLLECTING

A seller can never outbid a collector. They have to re-sell and make a profit.

A collector can always outbid a seller, as they are willing to pay a higher price.

There are plenty of stores selling cheaply

As I said I have not won any bids in 3 weeks after wanting to collect , at every auction and even lookin back at past sales in Ebays advance search Only one buyer gets them all. its the ID number and that number climbs with every buy or sale

I then type in SWAP CARD sellers under shops in advance search and up comes Ebays Biggest Swap card shops so then you just search with the same number as its last win and yes YOU have the Seller

THey are a seller a big one

I am just saying No one will start to collect if they can never win not one auction as I have bid on 50 auctions and gone up to ten dollars a card and then swipe never get it

There is plenty of no value cards to collect but these are just cards from decks.

I have written this hoping SELLERS SEE THIS

I know and I am happy for others if they win, but when new comers come along to bid on VINTAGE TRUE 70s cards

we must just forget it as you can never win There a dictater or two who will win EVERY SINGLE TIME ,

Maybe as to make sure they always have stock or maybe to push the prices up or maybe they are consumed by greed

I just think it has to be said and its sad that what was once a childs cheap fun collecting game from the 1970s is now something I will never bother with again and I would say many would have had this experience and done the same

Also for those who complain bitterly at my statment Remember The truth always hurts

I have large collections of a few different things. I often get outbid by other buyers. That's the nature of auctions. It just means that person was willing to pay more than I wanted to. There is no way it would be a seller buying stock. Sellers sell for profit. Therefore, they are not going to pay top dollar for something they want to resell. It wouldn't be viable or sustainable.

Most experienced buyers don't bid early. They wait until the last 5 seconds to bid. I know since I've been doing that for the last I don't know how many years, I have won more, for a lower price.

It's called a feedback number and it doesn't climb with every buy or sale.
It increases with every feedback received, either selling or buying

This is where the term Swap Cards originated. They were decks of cards
broken up and 'swapped' by kids, when mum and dad got sick of playing with them
or lost one. The true value of ephemera is the fact that they were intended to be played with.

Blank back cards were considered rubbish pre 1970, and some collectors still sneer on them. Coles cards were getting prices in the hundreds of dollars each a couple
of years ago.

Why are you not buying BIN items? There are plenty of 70's blank backs available

Just remember, you will be the only one who misses out.

No-one else will care

There are over 19,000 Buy It Now listings for swap cards starting at $1....surely you can find something to start your colllection with in that lot and then you don't have to bid against people who obviously are prepared to pay more than you want to pay.

I rather suspect that any swap card seller who does read the OP's rant will continue to do exactly as they are doing now with the small difference that they will not be selling to the OP who will be on their special list.

I like to collect a few things and one of them is I occasionally dip into swap and sketch cards.

I collect specific themes and for cards that I know are not likely to be ever worth a fortune, I stick to low cost BIN. I buy what I like...not as an investment, so if the cards are $1 each and they look good, I'll buy them.

Cards I'm looking for to complete sets I might bid on but I'm not going to be silly about it. With eBay you might not see another one for a year or more....or there could be an identical card available next week. There's still a specific set I want (I don't have any of these cards) which also includes a booklet to put them in. I've missed out on a complete set and book once. The cards have come up occasionally as singles. I've decided to wait and see if I can get a complete set. I've got Searches set up to keep track. It's a nice to have, not a must have so I am prepared to wait.

Sketch cards are collector cards that are hand drawn or painted. I collect a specific subject and artist. Unfortunately, while he has started releasing cards again, the prices have now gone through the roof. I could afford to buy a some but the prices are way too high for what they are. From a collector viewpoint they are not a good investment at these prices (unless he shuffles off the planet sometime soon I guess).

Are you collecting something specifically rare or potentially expensive? Most of the time I buy cards very cheaply when I decide to go on a 'card hunt'.

More specifically, if the OP types in 'swap cards blank back'

- which is what they want - there are over 1,000 cards, buy it now, starting at $1.

Most of which are 1970's. I found 9 out of the first 200 that were modern.

Also, a lot of them are in mint condition. For a 40 yo card $1 is good value

I really did not think the Ebay community would get so upset I read an old post about someone complaining about the cost of the swap cards and the way they had been posted to her and she was also told to shut it.

ALL I am saying is to the big buyers that dictate the auctions you are shooting your self in the foot because you turn off the average new come Buyer to collecting loose 30 auctions and you say I can not be be bothered and then you want me to buy off the same big buyer with inflated prices no way.

I live in a retirement village and there is about 30 of us who thought it would be fun to start collecting

And yes there is some cheap cards if they are real as my friend has brought them and they are copies not even real , they had been scanned and printed from the computer

so then how do you know what you getting in the cheap shop.

But thanks to all who have had a say it is interesting

Yeah, that was me..............

I wasn't complaining about the cost of the cards, but rather having paid for registered

I expected registered. I also expected waterproofing and proper packaging.

$130 worth of cards in the garden and wet. Still have not replaced them all

The new modern cards must be listed as modern

If it is listed as vintage then it must be vintage - 20 years or older

Your friend is probably one who does not read the whole listing

Some listings do not mention that they are modern until you scroll down.

Sarah Kay cards are being reproduced by one seller, as far as I know

Greythorne and Tassell cards are vintage cards.

A few years ago, a warehouse was found full of their cards.

They were auctioned by the boxload.

They are not scanned, but originals and are still in mint condition.

Valentine and Drawing Board brands are older than Greythorne and Tassell

so command high prices if in excellent condition

The demand dictates the price. If a seller can get a high price then that's

what selling is all about.

If you don't know what you are looking at, then I'm sorry, but

perhaps swap cards are not for you

I have been collecting them since the 1950's and have over 100,000

I believe that is the longest post I have ever written

I forgot another thing - a tip -

A reproduction card, or one that is scanned and printed

will usually have a watermark on the pic in the listing.

Where do you live?

There is a stall over at Caribbean Market that sells vintage swap cards. A lot of them take me back to my childhood. I am pretty sure they are vintage & not reproductions as they look thicker, how card goes when it is older. But I am no expert. I must ask the stall holder next time I am over that way.
