Weber BBQ scam ?

I recently purchased a Weber BBQ from a user named <Removed>. I bought it hastely and i now suspect a scam, the item was under half price with shipping free. im usually pretty good at picking up scams but for some reason i must have fallen into the trap. does anyone know of any scams like this ?

the user has only been a memeber for 1 month and had 4 bbqs to sell that day, nothing else.

if someone could give me some feedback that would be great

Yes, it's a scam. Report the seller to eBay and open a dispute to get your money back. The scammer will probably do well out of this one because the other 2 buyers were also low feedback buyers, so probably don't know they can open a dispute to get their money back. Once the scammer realises how easy it was to get money for nothing, he'll list other stuff. Hopefully by reporting him, eBay can shut him down before he does it again.

That was quick Tippy....ebay have already removed the listings.

Hopefully the other buyers will have been alerted to open disputes.

The seller is now NARU too! Finally eBay got something right. Problem is, they'll just create another account and start again. I'm guessing they would have had immediate payment on the item, so hopefully the other 2 buyers know they can get a refund too.

That's one thing I really hate about buyers being anonymous now. You can't send them a message to let them know. That's how so many are gettng ripped off. Back in the day I sent quite a few buyers a message to let them know to claim a refund. Most didn't know they could and were very grateful.

OP, if you open a dispute now, you should get a refund pretty quickly because eBay has shut the seller down. They usually refund pretty quickly, sometimes straight away, when they shut someone down.

ebay should be contacting every buyer to alert them to the fact they were scamed and telling them how to get their money back.

David, ebay do notify buyers when items are removed.....or at least they used to.

It could have changed now. I would not know as I have not had a dicey transaction for many years.

Buyers are told what to do if they have already paid.

Lyndal, a few months ago I had a seller that was NARU'd and I was notified by eBay of the decision to ban them, and I'm pretty sure I was directed to the "resolve a problem" link. So hopefully they're still doing that.

i've never been in the situation but if ebay does contact buyers and explain how to get their money back good on em.

now if we could just have some clever person devise a way of stopping a crook seller from ever opening another account.

To add to what others have said, ebay did remove this and the other 5 SCAM selling IDs and their fraudulent listings for

NEW Weber Family Q3100 BBQ LPG very quickly so in this particular case, well done ebay!

Ignore any rubbish auto messages from ebay telling you that you may still receive your item.

Sometimes it's possible to log on to Paypal and cancel your payment.

If this can't be done, open a Dispute immediately and escalate to a claim as soon as the system allows.

Although the SCAM listings show that the (non existent) BBQs are in Australia, they're actually listed by Chinese Scammers who

either register a new ID on the AU site using fake details or by hijacking another member's account..

Beware of spoof/phishing emails you may receive. Don't open them and don't click on any links.

Run all your spyware , keylogging and virus protection and change all your passwords regularly.
