Seller wants to be paid by bank transfer!!!!

I have purchased an item worth $400 and the seller has sent a message asking if I

would pay by bank transfer? as they have trouble accessing their paypal account sometimes.

They also asked for me to verify my address and said that people have many different addresses on ebay (ok I didn't know that) so they don't send it to the wrong address.

Red flag #1 asking to pay by bank transfer

Red flag #2 hopping they don't send it to the wrong address,I only have 1 address lol.

So my dilemma now is if I pay by bank transfer and mind you I have never purchased from this seller b4, now will I get

my item (maybe,maybe not) and if I don't then I'm out of pocket of $400.

Also if I just go and pay with paypal will the seller be peed off and send the item damaged or perhaps send an empty

parcel.

If any of the bad scenarios do happen then I'm not in the mood or have time to straighten things out (so lazy as it's so cold lol).

Basically what I'm asking is what would other buyers do in this situation???

Pay by paypal.....no ifs or buts.

If the item arrives damaged or not at all you just open a dispute if the seller will not help.

As lyndal said scrambler, Paypal only, I have 2 sellers that I'd be confident in using BT with no others.

Hey, I'll bet you knew that anyway about Paypal only !!!!!

I will never pay for anything on ebay other than via paypal. I am not sure you would be able to get a refund should things not turn out. I really don't think it is worth the risk.

You have to be kidding? Do you actually read the boards? Nobody who does read the boards would ever have to ask that question. As to not being in the mood to sort things out, how can you sort anything out if the seller has used a hacked bank account and/or is not even in Australia.

This buyer would report the seller and call ebay and ask them to cancel the transactiion so there was no chance of an unpaid item strike.

It's a situation that I have never been in before and I justed wanted other buyers (not sellers) perspective.

Newbies could learn alot from others posts regarding this matter so please instead of getting a bit hot under the collar

a simple realistic answer will do cheers.

Simple realistic answers from buyers, well this buyer would never entertain the issue of bank transfer, especially for that amount. If a seller was demanding bank transfer, I'd not think twice about hitting the PayPal button, purely to show them I'll pay how I see fit. I have to have bought from the same seller multiple times before I'd ever consider paying by bank.

That's a common line that a scammer uses to get free moneyn(no way for you to get your money back).

That could be to allay your fear of sending by BD as surely if the ask for a correct address they must be

"genuine".

You have PP protection so you could start and win a dispute and they would get the item back in the same

state that they sent,(in the case of an empty parcel the weight would be the give away and then just take it

to a PO and open it in front of them)

I would've just messaged them and told them that I only pay by PP and if that wasn't good enough please

send a cancellation request.

Hi tazz I ended up sending a message and the seller said even though they would rather of got paid by bank

transfer they understood and said to pay with PayPal.

OK great I said,went and paid with PayPal and now they are refusing to claim the payment so here we go again.

Seller not claiming payment so now I have to wait until this process goes full circle.

I don't know why they just didn't cancel?

So now it seems as though the seller isn't going to claim the payment.

And if they don't claim it after 30 days then PayPal will give me a refund,but the seller can claim it on day 29

so this is where it **bleep** me off,I need the item now and probably won't get it in the end and also my money

is being held for ransom just because I refused to pay by bank transfer,surely there should be a better system

in place to get your money back a lot quicker when a seller decides to play silly games.

This seller has got very good feedback but I have that feeling that things won't end well lol.

Sounds like the old time Chinese hijackers/scammers that would pocket money if the buyer was silly enough

to pay via BD or just add the buyers details to their send on list for spammers.

It will be a good idea to keep a close eye on your Email account and watch for phishing Emails,(especially

if you got the item at a very good price).

Quite a lot of sellers use their item description to declare that they won't accept PayPal - here's a random example, from a listing I was looking at a few minutes ago:

"Before you press the buy it now button please read the following conditions .If you want to bid please ring or text me on 0412 xxx xxx.

If you live overseas send me a message via ebay .I will not ship these items or help with shipping if you use paypal .

If you use paypal you must pickup the goods in person

I will however go out of my way to help you ship these items if you pay for the item & shipping directly into my bank account .The reason for this is paypal allow a purchaser 150 days to lodge a dispute against me The seller .I now have 2 (items) stuck in the UK as i was forced to refund the purchaser whilst the (items) where in transit .

Pickup or viewing is available at xxxx most days via appointment .All goods are advertised elsewhere and may be sold at any time .A GST receipt is available with all purchases"
