Biscuits, cake mixes, confectionary are fine to get sent. Hash brown mix isn't though. I had a box of dried shredded potato with whatever else gets put in hash browns, that you only had to mix water with, confiscated by customs about 2 years ago that I'd bought from the US. Other things that you can't bring in are fruits, grains, dairy products (including yoghurt), eggs, raw wool, plants (and plant material, like leaves) and eggs (there are more, but they are the ones that come to mind at the moment). If you went overseas and brought home a wooden statue for example, it would have to be treated prior to you being able to take it home. Usually it's done by gamma radiation.

I wanted to import some tulip and daffodil bulbs a few years ago and to bring them in they would have to stay in the quarantine centre, where they would be planted and grown. Once they were grown they would be tested. They had to stay there for a full growing cycle, which would have been close to a year, so each stage of the growing cycle can be tested. It was going to cost a small fortune for that to happen.

Chicken breeders like to import eggs for breeds we don't have here. There are a few certified farms around the world where you can legally import the eggs, but you have to have a permit to get them in. You have to jump through all sorts of hoops. Often people will go into a syndicate because last time I had anything to do with it, it was going to be around $30,000 to import them.

When Mr Tippy went to the US last year, they took a can of coke off him before he flew out from the US to come home. They didn't say why, they just said he couldn't take it. When he landed he couldn't remember what food he had in his bag, so he ticked yes for everything on the declaration card. They let him keep the biscuits, lollies and chocolates, but they took the muesli bar that he had. It had fruit, seeds and grains in it.

I asked a seller to do up an invoice for some items as I couldnt check them out normally answer was certainly (no word from them yet).
Wanted an item of another seller as its listing was about to end and asked if they were going to relist it answer was certainly (they didnt relist it).
Asked another seller to ship an item (this was purchased 2 days ago) answer was certainly, item still has not been shipped.
Look just be honest and upfront about things. Dont give buyers a runaround. Time wasters as far as I can see.

There are some shonky buyers around who give sellers the run around and waste their time too.

Just because the seller has not marked the item as posted does not mean it has not been posted.

Sellers don't necessarily relist immediately....why did you not buy it before it ended if you wanted it? Why rely on a relist?

And how do you expect a seller to send an invoice if you have not bought the items?

How long ago did you request the invoice? Not everyone is on their computer 24/7. If the seller doesn't have any more listings ending for a few days they may not have logged into their account. I thought after all this time you would know how things work now?

I don't see any evidence of shonky sellers that you've described. Shonky buyers maybe, but certainly not shonky sellers. I'm guessing they are overseas? Maybe it's a public holiday where they are? Maybe it was the middle of the night when you sent the message? Would you expect them to get out of bed at 4am to post your item because you've stamped your feet and demanded they jump to attention?

Take a breath Michelle. Please. You'll get your illegally imported rat food (unless customs seize it). Stop panicking.

My computer spat the dummy & destroyed its hard drive; So was in the workshop for 5 days. Maybe something similar has happened to your seller Michelle? You also need to allow time for OS sellers (I know you love OS imports for your little friends) to be awake & at their computers etc. Do be patient.

I'm sure all will be OK or seized by Tassie customs. EDIT - my ducks are quite happy with grain from local suppliers. When we had a pet rat he ate that too! Not Fussy!

Isn't that something you would expect to happen automatically after a purchase anyway?

Do you mean you asked them before the purchase if they would be able to ship the item to you and they said certainly? I guess I am assuming then it could be a purchase from overseas.

If you did ask before purchasing and they said yes, I would take it only that they meant they post to your area. Two days isn't that long, I would give them another day or so at least before worrying.

The seller may have shipped and not marked it as sent (if so, that is annoying I know.
Had to get Ebay to ask seller to do a manual invoice (nicely of course) which agreed to. It was quite cheap as well and postage was reasonable. Seeing as the range of small animal foods in the stores here isnt that great I really have no alternative but to on Ebay and yes the brands I buy are not available in Australia otherwise I would buy it here and support local business.

Will the "where's my item" start tomorrow? Does this stuff contain restricted material? What are you going to do when customs catches up with you and stops all your dangerous purchases coming into the country, which they will? Genuine question.

Thats without mentioning the stiff penalties they will impose. You won't have a choice but to buy locally because once you are in the system for illegal imports, everything you get sent into the country is checked.
