Problem with Envelopes bought

These arrived and I am not happy with the quality Is it a change of mind because they are unusable to post in??

Of course 120gsm means the thickness of the paper, and if you are posting in an envelope a 120gsm is more is thicker and more durable than normal envelopes which is a much lower gsm Yes i would expect them to be superior and tough enough to actually get the item in the envelope posted without it ripping. You have sold a inferior product that is unusable. I would like you send a label so they can be returned to you ASAP

And yes the envelopes feel like 120gsm but they rip when touching they is something wrong with them and I expected a product that is usable. Send your label and I will have them packed up and back to you ASAP so you can initiate the refund of my money.

I didnt ask you to match another sellers product I used that as an example I have bought 120gsm envelopes before and they are tough and good to post not thin ones Thats why I went for 120gsm because I am happy with that 120 gsm even though they are a little heavier The more gsm the better the envelope. What you have sold is an envelope that is inferior that rips easily and is not usable.

We did supply the 120gsm envelopes and they are exactly the same as our description and pictures show. They are working very well in our business and other customers are satisfied with these envelopes. We do not match products from officeworks or other suppliers. They are not the same as you expected or the same as you have bought from officeworks before, that was not our mistake. And we did not describe items like that. Please ask before purchase if you have any question. We accept the return, but we are not responsible for the return postage.

I bought these envelopes as I was looking for 120gsm. The reason why is the thickness makes them highly durable and reliable I previously bought 120gsm from officeworks but your price was great as it was a bulk buy. These envelopes are trash and as I was unpacking quite a few just ripped from just handling them let alone packing an item in and sending They are not fit for purpose. When posting in an envelope I would want the item to be still in there when it arrives, I have no confidence in this product at all. I am sorry but you can have your envelopes back and you can refund. Thanks

If they are 120GSM, then they are as described.

Any return would be at your expense.

The easy way to tell is to measure one of the ones you have destroyed. Width x length (flattened) = area. Weigh it.

For example, an A4 envelope would be roughly 30cm x 21 cm x 2. Allowing for the overlap, say 1400 square centimetres. A square metre is 10,000 square centimetres. So 120GSM should equal 14% of 120g. Which is17 GRAMS. Rounded.

Edit: I see you have given the dimensions as 245x340. That is 833cm2, doubled, plus overlap for joins. So maybe 20g.

And they may be as what the seller has described.

So it is more of a differ of opinions/expectations.

If you are truly unhappy with them and want a return, open an INAD in eBay and seller will need to provide a return label.

I got the feeling from the OP that a request had already been opened.

I would send the item back to the address the seller specified, let them refund the original purchase price and close the request as soon as they've refunded. I would be grateful that the seller offered refund given some of the envelopes have been damaged, therefore they're not getting a box of 1,000 back, so can't resell them as such.

Based on the communications posted by the OP, it appears both sides are correct.

Even though as described, an inferior material will present as such and may not be as expected as normal standards.

In this case the seller does not appear to be flexible in any way therefore I give the benefit of doubt to the buyer.

Should the seller be supplying an inferior product they will be on notice and should they not, it falls on the seller to factor into their business a small percentage for loss or damage.

Hence the sway towards an INAD case without any of us knowing the facts.

PS, I also thought a case had been opened.

PPS - I managed a design studio for many years (included graphic design) and 120gsm is 120gsm, however the moisture content will determine it's quality.

Chalk and cheese, similar to products from China that are as described.

If I purchased 120gsm envelopes and they ripped when I handled them or put things in them prior to posting I would want to return them as well - as faulty.

As the OP says other branded 120gsm envelope products are fit for purpose - and their recent purchase of an inferior product is not.

Faulty goods or goods that are not fit-for-purpose that they are sold to perform - fall under item not as described - on eBay and Paypal.

I think a request to return is reasonable - 120gsm envelopes ripping easily when handled - IMO not acceptable.

There is no question of whether the seller will accept a return.....the only question is who should pay for it.

Under these circumstances I think the buyer is right....the envelopes are not fit for purpose so the seller should pay.

Unfortunately, if the seller can prove the items are as described (120gsm) the buyer will probably lose.

lyndal, I think if the OP was to push it hard the chances are probably reasonable that it may go in their favour, since the envelopes are not fit for the purpose bought for as said before.

Obviously if the envelopes rip easily then there is no chance of them surviving the postal system intact.

However, it could take a lot of pushing on their behalf to try and prove that to eBay/Paypal, but for the approx $54.00 return postage it's worth trying hard to get a favourable ruling IMHO.

I bought 1000 because I bought 400 120gsm before from another person. I went into the shops and had a look at all the different envlopes sizes and gsm and though there were like 4 different brands they were actually only differed on price. They all were fine I believe I did my research before making my inital purchase earlier this year and I received envelopes that I didnt question anything about. The ones I bought earlier this year are nearly gone. I just wanted to use my voucher and so bought big That would give me plenty of time to stamp and have ready to use would only have the one delivery.

It does not meet the specific purpose I need them for. Many just ripped while unpacking. I need my things to actually get to the buyer without them saying the envelope was empty

Actually that is why I bought from Australian seller as I wasnt prepared to take on cheap inferior product. And they are from China. They are shipped from a warehouse obviously in Aust but were wrapped in chinese wrapping.

I bought some other products from same seller and they were fine. Once again in Chinese packaging.

I am in no way a scammer. I sell I do my best to supply good quality products. I have seen negs on other sellers feedback about not having item in envelope before thats why I did research before sending items this way.

They didnt come in a box, they came strapped in a big bundle taped with some thin strong packing tape and when picked up they were ripping when I lifted from the tape as it cut into them as it was nylon

I agree with you....if they are not fit for purpose then you should be refunded with return postage at the seller's expense.

I was just playing devil's advocate here....the seller will maintain they are as described as they are 120gsm.

Padi is right....you may have a fight on your hands as the seller may well win the dispute.

If the dispute goes in the seller's favour you could try a paypal dispute after joining up to the paypal offer of paying for return postage up to a limited amount. It may not cover all the postage but it may be the best option.
