^^The problem is not to do with the listing photos being stock. The problem is that the zoom does not work with Firefox on my 1st computer even though it works OK for the same listing on my second computer.

e.g.

Here is a listing which has photos that zoom on computer 2 but do not zoom on computer 1

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BUILT-1-48-EDUARD-LIMITED-EDITION-HARRIER-GR-7-BOSCOMBE-DOWN-1996-/182504519556?hash=item2a7e1df784:g:O9oAAOSw44BYiTHB

Would be curious to know if other users have zoom working for this listing on the Firefox browser

For the last few weeks I cannot zoom an image usnig mouse over in firefox on my main computer.

Edge works OK and the image mouse over does the zoom.

Firefox on my 2nd compter works OK. The exact same page has the mouse over zoom working.

On my 2nd computer with the item page loaded the small pictures display and under the main picture are the words 'Mouse over image to zoom' and the zoom works.

On the 1st computer with the same item page loaded the small pictures display and under the main picture are the words 'Click to view larger image and other views'

So on the 1st computer it seems that the page has already decided at load time that the zoom option will be disabled and replaced with the click option only and is explicitly stating that.

I did not change anything in preferences or settings that I am aware of on computer 1 so how is ebay deciding to disable the mouse over soom feature for computer number 1?

I have tried the function on Firefox and Chrome and both use the Click to enlarge.

I tried on listings on the Australian site, the UK and the US sites.....all use the Click. I really can't remember the last time I saw the mouse over option on either browser and I have not used IE for so long that I did not even put it on this laptop.

Does it really matter whether you Click or Mouse over?

I have just now tried the UK and US sites as well as Australia and all of them give me Zoom on computer 2 ('click to view...' function also works) and all 3 sites give me only 'Click to view...' on computer 1 (the US site does not have the words 'Mouse over image to zoom' or 'Click to view larger image and other views' in either case)

My 2 computers are almost identical. Both are Lenovo X230. Both are running windows 10 with all latest fix packs. Both Firefox are 52.0.2 32 bit

The mouse over zoom is nice since you can see the photos zoomed at 100% detail. With 'click to view...' you see the picture a bit larger but still resized down to fit inside the browser window so you generally can't see the same detail.

The workaround with zoom disabled is to load the picture in the browser and then save the image to the desktop and then open in an image viewer and then zoom to 100% but that is a bit of a guddle.

The problem only exists in Firefox. With Microsft Edge the zoom function is fine on both computers.

I see what you mean about the zoom feature being better for real closeups.

A few years ago I would have found that the best option too but I am no longer buying the china that I used to buy.

What I buy now does not really even need the click to enlarge.....don't need to inspect new DVDs in minute detail.:smileylo

As far back as I can remember the Click has been the most used function.....the zoom was very few and far between.

Machine 2 I just use for watching TV and movies.

I wish it was Machine 2 that did not have ebay zoom working instead of machine 1!

I thought maybe there was a Firefox preference setting different on machine 1 even though I did not change anything at the time zoom stopped working but I have checked all Firefox settings and they are identical on both machines.

Thanks for checking if you have zoom working. Interesting that it works on Win 7 but not Win 10. Both my machines were upgraded from Win 7 to Win 10.

^Yes, as mentioned in the OP I tried Edge on machine 1 and the zoom function does work. It is only Firefox that does not work for zoom. For various reasons I much prefer Firefox. The zoom function works on Firefox on machine 2 but not on machine 1.

On machine 1 when I mouseover an image in FF a small popup appears in the lower left corner saying:- javascript;

Maybe that is a clue I am not sure but Javascript is enabled and working for other sites.

Try reloading an eBay listing page by holding down shift and pressing F5 (this downloads a fresh version of the page rather than pulling it from the cache, and can often resolve issues with Javascript).

If that doesn't work, clearing cookies and cache completely might.

^Thanks for the suggestions. Clearing the cache and clearing all cookies both did not fix the issue. Still no zoom on FF. I did not think it would be cache since I have loaded many new ebay item pages since the problem started a month ago and the problem is always there even in newly loaded pages.

I tried refresh (F5) but no luck. Shift F5 actually seems to brnig up a performance debugger in FF 52.0.2 but regular F5 does do the refresh but still no zoom.

Sorry, I meant Control + F5 - pressing F5 without holding control reloads, but uses the cache, while holding control bypasses the cache (I don't know if the Javascript file is the same for the mouse-over function on all eBay listing pages, so can't say whether it would download for every single listing you look at, or just cache it once, but in any case since you've cleared the cache and retried, it must be another issue).

^OK I tried Ctrl-F5 and it does not help but thanks for the suggestion.

I went back to Shift F5 since it has a debugger and you can actually see the Javascript.

It is actually 170000 chars long but I managed to isolate the part that sets up the zoom or click

This is a bit of the code to display the 12th photo out of 12 from an item where zoom is not working but the javascript says -

So it seems as if zoom should be working but isn't.

Would be interesting to do a straw poll to see what percentage of people have zoom working on Firefox(or Any browser) but I am not sure if this forum supports online polls.

Here is a larger extract from the code for the 12th photo (sorry but it is all on one line the way the coders have done it)

0,0,0,['ebay.viewItem.ZoomEnlarge','w1-7'
'w1-6','vi_pic_zoomEnlarge',0,['ebay.viewItem.Zoom','w1-8'
"isNewZoomTest1":true},'w1-7','vi_pic_zoom']]],['com.ebay.raptor.vi.share.SocialWidget','w1-9'
['ebay.viewItem.AddToWatchLink','w1-10'
watchLink
http://www.ebay.com.au/myb/WatchListAddAjax?_trksid=p2047675.l1359&SubmitAction.AddToListVI=x&item=182504519556&rt=nc&etn=Watch list&tagId=-

Here it is wrapped

0,0,0,['ebay.viewItem.ZoomEnlarge','w1-7'
'w1-6','vi_pic_zoomEnlarge',0,['ebay.viewItem.Zoom','w1-8'
"isNewZoomTest1":true},'w1-7','vi_pic_zoom']]],['com.ebay.raptor.vi.share.SocialWidget','w1-9'
['ebay.viewItem.AddToWatchLink','w1-10'
watchLink
http://www.ebay.com.au/myb/WatchListAddAjax?_trksid=p2047675.l1359&SubmitAction.AddToListVI=x&item=182504519556&rt=nc&etn=Watch list&tagId=-

Very strange but good news. The mouse over zoom has spontaineously started working in Firefox.

It has been broken for over a month. It was not working 1 hour ago. Now working.

The only thing I did between then and now was to update Adobe Flash player and also log out and log back in to Windows (since my start bar locked up).

I don't think the Flash update was the solution as Flash only started complaining about needing an update 2 days ago and zoom has been broken over a month - and I don't think the ebay pictures feature uses Flash any way.

It is possible I just needed to logout/login or restart the machine, as I very rarely do that and usually just put the machine to 'sleep' at night.

Anyway if anybody finds zoom not working my only suggestion from my experience would be to try restarting Windows.

That is not an option for me....my lappy has only been in use for 2 weeks and has had several restarts in that time when new programs have been installed.
