How do I report buyer for using a sniping program/app?

So how do I report someone who was obviously using a sniping app/program?

I was bidding on something, went down to the last few minutes, I was the highest bidder then with literally 1 second to go the bids jump to just over my highest, so unless this "person" ( I don't consider them people) has impeccable timing, I call bulls**t.

When ever I bid on stuff as soon as someone goes over my highest bid I get a notice, this never happened, so the only conclusion is them sniping, and any responses I see saying otherwise will be ignored.

So ebay, why do you let scum like this use your service, they should be banned for life for being who can't be content with being like the rest of us and instead make me and others want to do bodily harm to them.

So fix this, it isn't fair on people, I know you don't care, you get your money either way, but come one, you letting "people" do this is why so many people are leaving ebay, or not using the bidding system.

Nothing to report.

Snipe programs are perfectly legit.

I use one to bid when I am not on the computer and it happens to bid in the last few seconds so shill bidding cannot occur.

I get sick of people like yourself accusing and name calling just because you don't know how it works.

You can just bid your max and when the time a bid is made is of no consequence.

If you win, you win, if not you were never going to win no matter when a bid is placed.

Now just waiting for an apology or are you gutless ?

As Kopes has said, it's perfectly legit to use a sniping program, no different to bidding for somebody else who's not on eBay, or bidding in the last few seconds of an auction.

I agree, it sounds like a sniping program.

I used to get a bit frustrated too when i would wait for an auction to finish, then put in a bid in the last 20 seconds, only to be outbid literally on the last second.

Anyone bidding manually would be hard pressed to time it that closely.

I know people say-put in your highest bid, but sometimes you do feel if it is just a matter of 50c you would have been willing to go up a dollar or so more.

But it is all perfectly legal etc. It's a bit weird I must admit as if everyone used it we'd see no bids for 7 days then all of them trying to be placed in the last second.

My best advice is to do what I do. I joined a sniping program where the first 3 snipes are free before you have to join. I have used two. One won, one didn't. A person will only win with a sniping bid if their bid is higher.

It's good though as you don't have to be home sitting on your computer at an inconvenient time.

Most items seem to be moving to buy it now anyway but for auctions, my best advice would be

-join a sniping program

-put in your absolutely best bid in the hour before it ends. On no account days before. In the last hour or so.

I do not use a sniping program but if I am bidding on an auction I can place my bid in the last 3-5 seconds....does that qualify me to be called nasty names?

I have successfully done a manual snipe bid with just one second remaining . . . . . . so I thank you for your compliment that I have impeccable timing. I don’t, however, think that you labelling me a non-person is very nice . . . . you don’t even know me!

Seriously!!!!!! What would you do if you did get a notice with less than one second remaining? (hint: time travel is not an acceptable option)

Please seek help, immediately. I mean, if not bidding the maximum amount you can spend, or being outbid by another member who can bid more than you causes you to have feelings of wanting to do bodily harm to them then you are in real need of professional help.

Snipe bidders have the same amount of time to bid as you. The end times for auctions are known to all. How is this not fair?

If your gripe is that you did not have time to bid again then you are not bidding the maximum amount you are prepared to spend, and anyone who is prepared to bid higher than you, with or without sniping, will beat you every time.

If you get beaten by 50 cents there is no guarantee that if you were given the time to bid $1 higher that you would win as that member that outbids you may have bid $50 more than you.

You are hurting because you really wanted an item and were outbid in the final second. Use this as a learning experience and ensure that you bid your maximum every time you see an item you really want. That way, if you are outbid either manually or by snipe bid then it just means there is some other member/person (yes, they are people) who has more money to spend than you.

springy, the problem with this thinking is that it would be an admission that you didn’t bid your maximum in the first place. As stated in my detailed reply post, there is no guarantee that bidding $1 more would see you win the item as the higher bidder may have bid $50 higher than you.

The sniping program I used for years (although not lately as I haven't bought anything at auction for a long time) is free, no matter how many times I used it. Perhaps the rules have changed? Called Gixen. Always worked well for me.

I don't see the point really. Bid your max. If you get outbid so be it. Next time bid higher.

I too have bid in the last seconds. If you want something bad enough you need to either bid higher in the last seconds or snipe if you must. Bottom line is highest bid gets it whether it's you or your computer or your cat.

You're absolutely right. Of course you can't see the other person's maximum bid.

It reminds me of a while back putting in a (manual) bid of $200 on a set of almost new curtains and rods for 5 large windows. The bidding at the time was only $10 but in the last minutes of the auction some people bid frantically, up by $1 & $2 a time .I wasn't watching, but saw the history later. Bidding finished at $55.

I'm sure some of the others were thinking they wished they had gone an extra few dollars but in actual fact even if they had upped the ante by $50 they still would not have won.

The seller was really chuffed by the way, was pleased with the way the auction went.

But... it doesn't change the fact that a person can feel frustrated when they are outbid at auction. I remember with some earlier auctions how amazed I was when bids were made in literally the last second. Sometimes they won, sometimes not, but I used to wonder how on earth people fine tuned it & must admit I was amazed when i learnt about sniping programs.

These days a lot of stuff is buy it now or else doesn't seem to get a lot of competing bids-quite a few times I have been the only bidder.

I guess the logical extension of the snipe gripe is to seek to have extension of time when bids are made in the last two minutes of an auction. This would not be a good thing.

No, I hate auctions like that too.

There is one online auction place i watched where items are not sold till there has been no new bid for-I forget exactly how long-but something like 20 or 30 seconds. It gave me a headache to watch.

The bottom line with sniping programs is they make it easier for people to put in a last minute bid without having to be there so from ebay's point of view, anything that gets extra people on board is fine. The more bids the better their profit line.

No use fighting it. If you can't beat them, join them.

I don’t use snipe services. I prefer to do manual snipes.

I once did a manual snipe in the final seconds for a canon lens kit. I was able to decode the high bidder’s bidding pattern and won the item by bidding just one cent more than the other bidder. Now that would have really p’d off that member . . . . . . but I did bid more than they were prepared to bid so I did not feel bad about it at all.

the bidder in that 1 cent win was ending their bids with 8.88. So, they had the high bid at something like $141 with minutes remaining having bid $148.88 and then another bid above that hidden bid. Their previous bids had been $128.88 and $138.88. I predicted that their other bid was $158.88 and did manual snipe bid of $158.89 . . . . . . winning by just 1 cent.
