PENNY5 Discount issue

I have a curly question.

This evening I was the winning bidder on an item. I sent the seller a couple of messages about picking up the item. While I was waiting for the seller to reply, I saw the item in my cart on my eBay app and I applied the discount code 'PENNY5' to the item, but I did not confirm the PayPal payment, as I was waiting to hear back from the seller.

After a little while, the seller responded to my message and after reading the seller's response, I saw a button marked Confirm & Pay just below the response.

I clicked on the button and was very surpised to see that i was charged the full price for the item.

I have contacted the seller asking for the transaction to be cancelled so I could resend it with the code added. I have also tried to cancel the Payment through the eBay app and website but I was just referred to the seller.

It's too late to contact eBay at this time of night, I will try to talk to them tomorrow.

Any thoughts from anyone here?

All you need is the seller to refund the payment in paypal not cancel the sale. There is not anything you can do on your end other than wait for the seller to respond.

Thtat's what I mean't - not cancel, just send a refund and then I can reprocess the sale. Just hoping the seller doesn't think I'm trying some kind of scam!

All good, I have contacted eBay and they will give me a voucher for the discount amount.
