Should I leave negative feedback?

I have just received nasty feedback (altough marked + ) from a seller. I purchased some vintage car parts from them and paid imeaditaely , item was marked as posted a day later with no tracking number.A week later I messaged them chasing the tracking number, no response A few days after the due delivery date i opened an item not received enquiry .Ebay put their funds on hold and i got a response from them quote "you will get it " and tracking number suddenly posted ! Then i get a Nasty message saying "Youre a GRUB and my funds are on hold close the case or ill leave a Neg feedback ". I was going to leave them a Positive as the items were well packed and as described and i had made allowance for the tardy postage time (parcel was sent 8 days after purchase date)

Personally, I would report the false positive (against ebay rules)

Report the feedback extortion (also against ebay rules)

and report the message

I'd be using the have us call you option for ebay though, so you get someone with a clue to speak to about them

I'd also be putting them on my blocked list

And sellers can't leave buyers negs anyway (which they most likely know and hope you don't know)

I agree with Bear.

The ~~idiot's~~ seller's funds are on hold cos he's a sometimes seller, not because of you.

This is why it's best to have a buying id, instead of buying with your selling id.

Block him.

As suggested have eBay remove the feedback as it's against policy and put him on your BBL so he can't buy a small item and leave a neg.

Then I would consider leaving neutral feedback for his rudeness and unprofessionalism.

Your question was should you leave negative feedback.

I think in this case, my answer would be yes.

But not quite yet.

Firstly, get his false positive feedback removed by doing exactly what enigmabear advises.

Block him from ever buying from you.

Then I'd give a negative rather than a neutral.

I'm saying that for a number of reasons.

-he lied about posting it in the first place

-he ignored your message

**-he tried to get you to close the item not received case prematurely, by threatening you. I was going to say the most important point was he didn't post till after you opened a case but I don't think it was. I think this is the pivotal point because if you had closed the case there and then, I am not convinced he would necessarily have sent you your item or certainly not within any short timeframe. He was trying to bluff you.

- he did not actually post till after his hand was forced when you opened an item not received case. And he couldn't bluff you into closing it.

Let's face it, you only got your goods because his money was put on hold anyway. This is the type of seller that was occasionally around a decade or so ago, but luckily paypal has knocked most of it on the head nowadays, thank goodness.

This is exactly the type of transaction that does deserve a negative.

Yeah springy, I thought a neg but then............items as described and well packed............buyer is happy.

The main thing is getting what one purchased even though a rude seller.

Did the seller post after the case was opened ?

Oh dear.

That seller appears to have a hair-trigger temper and a lack of understanding in how to deal with a transaction if something goes even slightly amiss.

What the seller's done is against the Feedback manipulation policy. From that page,

“Any attempt to artificially increase your Feedback score, or lower another member's, is considered Feedback manipulation. It can take different forms, such as selling or buying Feedback, giving unfairly low ratings, or even offering to buy another member's username.”

It's even more clearly explained in the Feedback policies page:

“Members can't exchange Feedback solely for the purpose of increasing Feedback scores, gaining eBay privileges, or enhancing their reputation on our site. Neither can they influence another member's Feedback through a series of repeat purchases, or by leaving negative comments with a positive rating.”

(Emphasis is mine.)

Click onto "Have us call you" on this link (to report an issue with a seller). The "Have us call you" page will load.

Because the seller has done this before – that is, given negative comments with positive dot – and because of the nature of their communication with you, I would consider that negative feedback is not unwarranted.

Something like "Item well packed but posted late; appalling communication, poor customer service" - exactly 80 characters - would be honest.

Slightly kinder would be "Terrible communication and customer service; everything else ok" - 63 characters.

Or you could be a little more creative.

"Communication troglodyte-style. What a pity."
"Seller called me a grub for enquiring where my item was...?"
"Sub-standard insults from seller, although item was fine."
"Thou lobcock jelly-brain! Canst thou not do better with thy insults?"
"Dear seller, please read eBay Feedback Policy before you embarrass yourself."

I tend to avoid giving negative feedback except in rare cases. I would probably give no feedback, but simply point the seller to the relevant policy, after which no further communication...

As the leaving of feedback is a subjective decision, not a consensus one, I'll even it up and say 'no'. Or don't leave any - it is voluntary (most sellers receive feedback for less than 50% of sales) . You got the goods in as described condition for the agreed price.

Well i left him a negative and took the advise and blocked him ,what tipped me over was his response to my last email quote "don't buy from me again" I think he needs a lesson on customer relations selling on ebay

He's done it before, they can see it in his feedback left for others.

He needs a slap from ebay for those

I can be cranky at times.

I'm not normally one to leave negs and I've sometimes done exactly what others here have suggested-not left any FB rather than go for a neg or neutral.

It takes a bit to make me go for the jugular but this seller would have pushed me over the edge, I think.

I guess it is all subjective, especially since the item was eventually received. But I would not appreciate a seller trying to abuse me in feedback like that, when I had done nothing to warrant it. I'd give a neg for the way the seller treated this transaction with lies and aggression.

But feedback is one of those things each buyer has to decide for himself or herself, I guess.

Yes i called ebay and they reviewed the feed back and imeadiatley removed it ,leaving just the positive and a comment that "feedback had been removed by ebay" success there but still a mystery why he didnt get my Neg feedback

Try leaving feedback again as tippy has suggested, but if it doesn't give you the option I'd say the seller (successfully) requested that eBay remove the negative score. eBay would sometimes do for the first neg received on accounts that were in good standing, on a case to case basis.
