Judy, take it from a buyer who has been subject to these automatic disputes....your buyers will not be happy if they are waiting for further auctions to finish.

Automatic disputes may be OK for very high volume sellers where it is easy to lose track of who has paid, but all it will do for low turnover sellers is lose them a potential return customer.

When the auto disputes were first implemented I was buying large numbers of relatively cheap items from the USA where the seller was encouraging buyers to combine postage for items finishing within 10 days. I was a bit annoyed when the first dispute was opened and contacted the seller to remind her that I had notified her that I was bidding over the next 10 days.

Her reply was that she was sorry but it was automatic and just ignore it. I did ignore it but continued to get disputes opened every time the 4 days came up on a new item.

I finalised my purchases (well over $200) and never returned to that seller again, although I would like to as she has some great items.

Thanks Lyndal- I have set it to allow 8 days to cover buyers who bid on multiples, though I have had very few of them!

Mind you, it would help if people did tell the seller they were watching other items! but I agree with you, the last thing I want to do is discourage multiple purchases!:-x

Judy, the auto Unpaid Item Dispute won't work for you ad you have Bank Account as a payment option (as it has no way of knowing if they put money in your account or not).

A very valid and useful point. I was burnt this way, and since then I much prefer to keep a manual control over things. I auto set to close at 4 days, but I open the initial dispute manually.

Some times there are valid reasons for a buyer to wait a little while and when it all boils down to it, a prospective sale these days can be worth a little comunication

deja - it wont work as you accept bank deposit.

And unless something has changed since they first introduced it, it wont even tell you that it wont work.

I prefer to do mine manually anyway. Keeps me more in tune with what's going on. 🙂

I understand the bank deposit problem, thanks crypsynight for pointing it out to me.

The thing is, nobody has paid me that way yet! Is it worth accepting it, at all?

I thought there might be a demand for a variety of payment options, but PP gets almost all the action, with a handful of local pickups.

I get a fairly even trickle of bank deposits coming through.

There are many buyers out there that feel insecure in having any form of online banking - which includes paypal. They like to be able to go into the bank and deposit it over the counter (maybe more so the elderly, but purely guessing).

But....even if you did stop allowing Bank Deposits, you still wouldn't be able to use the Unpaid Item Assistant as you still allow local pickup. To be able to use it, you need to only accept payment from electronic sources such as paypal and paymate.

😉

I accept Bank Dep and honestly have had maybe 5 people pay that way in 12 months.

JMO but you could remove the bank dep details, if a customer wants to pay that way they can always message you and ask. That way you can have all settings to auto and simply give the odd buyer your bank details on request.

How many NPBs are you expecting? Seems a bit radical just to have to avoid opening the odd dispute.

I expect none and get very few, like less than 1%.
