That is what I thought yet despite the buyer giving feedback "Received and does a great job" and getting a working item back after a month, ebay still found in the buyers favor. Doesn't seem 50/50 to me.

Quick question -
Has anyone, as a seller, successfully defended a return request from a buyer where the buyer has selected the option that the item doesnt match the description?

Will E-bay consider both sides or is it just an automatic decision - the buyer says it doesn't match the description so they automatically get to return for a refund and seller has to cop return post costs as well.

Ebay claim that they look at both sides if the dispute is bumped up to them for the decision, if you have good, clear evidence that the item is as described then you should be OK, If you are not then you need to get on the phone, repeatedly, until you get somebody who will listen.

quote from ebay customer support "We didn’t see the original item that you sent to the buyer and we didn’t we see the item the buyer returned to you, we are not in a position to take sides in these situations and verify who has the valid complaint."

I take this to mean they don't care if there is evidence or not, they didn't see the item so will always side with the buyer.

Good luck anyway.

If they are not going to take sides then there should be a 50/50 split.

Giving the buyer a full refund is taking sides.
