Trying to set up an eBay store

Hi there

Just trying to set up an EBay store - followed the stpes outlined, created my eBay account etc, went to my account, subscriptions, open store, went to select the appropriate subscription level and got the following error message:

Sorry, but you do not meet the following requirements:We are unable to process your subscription. To successfully subscribe to Basic Store you must first have an active seller's account.

Any words of advice?

To open an eBay store you have to be a registered member for at least 14 days. Your ID is registered today. You need to wait for 2 weeks to open a store.

You need to register as a eBay seller and need to file your credit card as payment method as well.

You also need a verified PayPal account.

Just type in eBay store in the link and check "how to set up eBay store". It will tell you you need to be member for 14 days.

rather than going to the expense of setting up a store, why don't you try the 30 free listings a month to see how you go.

After I posted about member for 14 days I sent eBay email asking about it is still valid because it wasn't mentioned in current sitemap.

I received a reply from eBay today.

I posted a wrong information about 14 days. It's not a requirement anymore.

This is the email. I thought it might be helpful.

Hello Yumi,

Thanks for your email.

To open an eBay store, members are no longer required to be a member for at least 14 days. The basic requirement is to have an eBay seller account with a credit card on file.

In the seller account, the member can choose PayPal, Direct Debit or Credit Card as their automatic payment method. If the member chose PayPal or Direct Debit as automatic payment method for seller fees, they still need to add their credit card information so they can open the store.

Here's how to add a Credit Card on file:

1. Click "Site Map" at the bottom of most eBay pages.

2. In the middle column, go to "Selling" and click the "Place or Update Credit Card On File" link.

3. Add the information required, click "Continue" and follow the online instructions.

Once the credit card information has been added, they can now proceed with subscribing to a store.

As of 16 May 2012, there were changes to the fee structure. Basic Store and Featured Store packages now have the same monthly subscription fee of AU$24.95. It is suggested for members to subscribe to the Featured store since the subscription fee is the same with better features, like more custom pages.

Vivaaroma, My advice to a new seller would be to buy and sell a few things before jumping in the deep end and opening a store.

Get a feel for how ebay works and the requirements of buying and selling.

As suggested above, use up the 30 free listings you have available. Once you have some feedback established, then open a store and enjoy. It is challenging and hard work, but IMO worth the effort.

Oh and if you haven't sold anything yet, do start with low value items, and items that aren't going to attract scammer buyers.

Good luck and keep us informed how you go. There are some very helpful folks on these boards, sometimes a bit harsh, but mostly with their hearts in the right place and some very good advice.
