Wasn't sure if this has been mentioned........... I was at my PO this afternoon and my friendly postal worker said although registered will be deleted (You can still use them for now)the delivery with signature labels can be bought in bulk the same as the registered labels could. they are 2.95 each or if you buy the roll they work out $2.80 each a little bit of a saving.

Not a saving if they become unuseable. The information going around is contradictory and unreliable. i wouldn't be bulk buying them untill all becomes a little more clear.

It could end up being false protection..

Now there's a scary increase - registered were $2.70 each by the roll, 10 cents more with no insurance....:-(

So, it's effectively a price increase of $1.60. 😞

See what is confusing is I keep hearing they are getting rid of registered, yet my copy of the "Post Charges easy guide within Australia" (as at 8 April 2013) which my local PO gave me THIS week lists the price for Registered Post - labels and imprints $3.20 per article or $135.00 per box of 50 Prepaid Registered Post labels

Sorry to get your hopes up - there really IS conflicting information, the easy guides say one thing but checking the AP website it says registered post for parcels is removed from 8th April

RP is now only available for letters - I'm not sure is large letters are included. The equivalent of RP for parcels is Signature On Delivery and Extra Cover evidently which cost over $1.00 more than RP. One of them can be used with standard and Express satchels from memory. If the price rises cause less sales for us I hope it will result in a significant drop in business for Aus Post but will a major business that can make a profit of over $100 million per year really care ?

Large letters can still be sent as registered post and thank goodness registered letter level of compensation, up to $100, has been retained.

I'm guessing my post office got it wrong on Monday - I had a large letter that I requested be registered, and they used a new red and white label, which I presume was designed for the SOD add-on under the new pricing etc, and I was charged $2.95, yet the postal charge booklet states registered for letters is still $3.20. Better not cause any issues. :_|

SOD ( very good abbreviation for it ) doesn't include insurance cover. I'm not sure if SOD includes tracking.

All over the counter parcel post and C&S products have tracking now :-x:-x:

Cause AP told us that whats customers want. (just happening to forget a whole lot of other priorities customers dream of 😐 )

Of course scans can be totally random or not at all, but thats ok (deep sigh) on the balance of probabilities they are usually scanned at a certain point along the way most of the time, just not with any certainty at the delivery point 😮

But thats ok too, as long as sellers have proof of post and win paypal claims, it shouldn't matter if customer is not happy and hasn't received their item (tongue-in-cheek) or getting AP compensation is torturous and at lower inadequate levels, unless paying through the nose for SOD & EC.

We just have to learn to accept that we need to pay more for a service we may or may not get, and if our parcels get lost it really is our own fault as we have not SODded it or ECed it against AP demonstrated incompetence :-(.

I was at the post office this arvo and asked if u can still get a parcel registered like before AP changed the pricing on Monday 8th April.

The answer was YES u can still register parcels which still includes insurance up to value of $100. also there was a AP worker [management ] there too and he confirmed that.

Just to throw another spanner in the works.

According to their site RP is now for letters and SOD and Extra Cover are for parcels.

Isent another parcel register today and asked again about it. Again I was told you can continue to use registered labels on large letters and parcel until you run out (if you used to buy them in bulk). They will no longer sell them over the counter.

They will now sell you the new labels for 2.95 over the counter or if you buy them in bulk by the roll you will pay 2.80each which is a saving on the label cost itself. I know it doesn't include insurance but you can't change that.

When I said they won't sell them over counter, I meant for parcels. You can still use them on letters. So if you stick it on a parcel I guess you will be throwing away money. Not sure how that is going to work though.

So are they going to continue to sell the normal registered labels at $3.20 a piece or $2.70 if got as a box of 50.....or are they deleting that item and replacing it with SOD+ extra cover?

So $3.20/$2.70 for $100 cover for a letter shape but if a parcel shape it would cost you $4.45 for same 'cover' ($2.95 plus $1.50)

Thinking any money I might think I am saving will have to be spent on boxes of panadols

Yes - for a parcel with Signed On Delivery and Extra Cover the total cost is $4.45. EC is charged at $1.50 for each $100.00 of cover that is required and SOD is useless without it if an item becomes lost in the mail system. It's a nice new money spinner / scam for Aus Post.
