Ebay does it again RETURN POLICY

What is the seller to do , the buyer buys items , gets what he ordered , then realises item HE ORDERED does fit his Machine, we supplied what he ordered , he makes mistake , but places claim in item not as described , requires a replacement for correct item. GOES THRU EBAY RETURNS

Going by EBay rules we have to supply a return label and replacement to his correct size and return it at our cost.

What a joke! Who makes up these rules, do they really, think these policies out!

I did ring the chap , he admitted he ordered the wrong item, but choice to use the return policy , he stated he never stated the item was not as described , this comes up as an automatic reason using this EBay return window.

Why do they make dealing on EBay so full of pot holes.

I run 2 web sites and never have a issue. Most problems can be solved just by a simple contact.

Email or phone. and yes of course we are more than happy to replace his item, but not with a big stick

COME ON EBAY GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER.

Why should the OP have to pay another 2 lots of postage when the buyer admits they made a mistake?

OP I would be ringing ebay and asking them to read the messages between you and the buyer so they can see they have admitted they ordered the wrong part. I would also ask them to remove the associated defect that you got for the buyer opening the dispute.

I would also tell the buyer you are happy to replace the part if they return it at their expense and then the cost of postage for the new part. You shouldn't have to wear the cost of their mistake.

Call ebay using the call you back option and tell them thst the buyer admits to having ordered the wrong part as can be seen in their emails and that you are more than willing to send the correct part if they return the wrong one at their expense however ebays policy clerly states that a seller does not have to pay for a return if the buyer has chosed the wrong size. If your returns policy is no returns then you should not have to do anything as this should be classed as a change of mind return request.

If the first rep does not help you try again a couple of hours later as another may be more helpful, if still no go ask to speak to a supervisor and make it clear that you are prepared to take this further if ebay continue to not follow their own policy.

My understanding in this situation is that eBay's Money Back Guarantee contains some aspects that are against Australian Consumer Law.

eBay Australia is bound by our law and specifically that of NSW and as such can't override it or have us sign away our legal rights.

Text relating to buyers wanting/needing to return goods is as follows on NSW Government Fair Trading website:

Returning the product.

You are responsible for returning the product, unless the cost of doing so is significant. In this case, the business must organise and pay for the return or exchange.

You do not have to return products in the original packaging in order to get a refund.

If you go to their website a fuller description of various scenarios is available.

Surely most buyers would realise that free postage simply means postage is included in the price, it is not a separate charge.

And that it means the price includes posting it to the buyer.

It does not include return postage.

There is no such thing as 'free' postage, or not that I know of anyway.

Problem is not the policy per say, it is the way it is implemented. Buyer selects not as described as reason for return, could be simple mistake of not selecting right option, but it just locks the mechanism in place without being assessed or reversed easily. There is also plenty of incentive for buyers to "deliberately accidently" select inappropriate reason.

Nor does the system differentiate between helpful sellers and unhelpful ones..

As far as free post is concerned that just means seller is willing to absorb the cost in price quoted, there is no reason for sellers to have to absorb this when transaction is cancelled due to no fault of their own. As far as it being a hidden cost that is Ebays sly marketing, nothing to do with seller.

Including post cost in price is no more dodgy than including any gst payable in price, if its an unavoidable fixed cost. Even ebay fvf and paypal fees are refunded for cancelled transactions,

Sure other online businesses absorb these occasional losses, but that is their marketing choice

The other question is whether the returned wrong part is now no longer new in packaging and so can't be restocked as such.

the system creates conflicts and disputes where previously would have been non..That is bad platform marketing for Ebay.

Getting back to topic, as eBay Sellers, ideally we want 100% positive feedback and things like Top Rated status so that our customers have confidence with us when they buy. In order to do that we must comply with eBay's requirements whether we like them or not.

So, we all get customers that are wrong, stupid, difficult or sometimes just plain provably crooked.

Deal with it! and write it off as a loss.

However, put them on your blocked bidder's list and you'll never have to deal with them again.

D.K.
