Unclaimed mail?

Hi, I sold an item on ebay, and it was posted in a platinum express satchel. However the tracking number says it is awaiting collection at the Post office (and has been for 7 days) I contacted the buyer (through ebay) 6 days ago to confirm that their item was awaiting collection, I have heard nothing back. I am wondering at what point Auspost will return the package to sender? And do I continue to try to contact the buyer?

Call Aust Post and ask how long they hold before returning with that service you chose.

You can also get buyers number and call them to let them know.

Select Advanced search next to the blue search button, then find contact info and follow prompts.

You will be emailed their details and they get yours.

I have had several like that; but as the buyers left me FB I realised that it is wrong; what happens is that at the PO they do not scan the item, they just get the buyer to sign for it. That means it stays on the tracking site as 'awaiting collection" for ever. I did keep checking on one item, just from interest, for several months.

It also happened with the item that the buyer did chargeback on; in that case it did worry me; I contacted AP 2x and still have no explanation from them (fortunately that did not matter and I got my chargeback overturned).

Hi Willow,

I can confirm that parcels are held for a minimum of 10 business days with a reminder card being sent after the first 5 business days. If the parcel remains unclaimed after that, it will be returned to sender.

I can confirm that parcels are held for a minimum of 10 business days with a reminder card being sent after the first 5 business days. If the parcel remains unclaimed after that, it will be returned to sender.

Alice, maybe you could explain why items that are collected from the PO often are not scanned, and remain showing as "awaiting collection" long after they have been collected and signed for? I have asked this 2x by email and never received answer.

Hi Super_Nova,

It is concerning to hear that you feel that parcels are often not scanned as collected, as this is certainly not the correct procedure. If the Post Office has an electronic scanner (most do, but not all) then the parcel should definitely be scanned as "Delivered" when it is collected.

Occasionally human error may enter the equation or technical difficulties, and when this does happen we do want to be advised so that we can look into what happened and ensure staff are aware of the correct procedures.

Thanks Alice, that last one was tracking # 08500113578257, it now shows only as "manifested", but for weeks it showed as sitting at PO in Seven Hills, although it was sent to PO BOX in Parramatta. It was a 'not as described item' sent back and therefore I was somewhat concerned that the seller will claim they did not get it, and PP will not refund me, but fortunately they did.
