And remember ........ even if you do lodge at a PO, many small POs don't scan the item (I've recently discovered). The item MAY be scanned when it gets to the first PO sorting facility. However, as I've been told by AP on many occasions, not all parcels are tracked at every point. The only way to ensure comprehensive tracking is paying for registered post.

i can see a lot of "item not received in estimated timeframe" statements creatthe same types of re-sends, refunds and defects

They are going to ask each buyer (or check on tracking) if the item arrived within the timeframmes that eBay/APO prescribe Its in the hands of your carrier to make sure you don't get defects. The possibilirties scare the socks off me.

Im glad they said "Improvements". Kind of acknowledging the DSR system is **bleep**.

Im a little worried about their new system though. No defects for negs? This is going to allow unethical sellers to tell buyers to take a hike when theres genuine issues, as long as you do it quickly, if the buyer doesnt open a case. And if they do open a case, just fix it in those circumstance. Either way, it still allows for really poor customer service, and leaves a small hole for unethical sellers.

I believe there should be defects for Negs, but no star defects.

Also - "No tracking information is available but your buyer responds positively to the new "item delivery" question, confirming the item was delivered by the estimated delivery date."

This worries me too. Buyers arent interested in checking dates. If they have an issue or believe they should have received the item within two days instead of the 10 that the seller specifies, they are still going to leave a defect. When I had postage on my items and posted SAME DAY, buyers still left defects for postage tims regularly. Thats why I changed to free postage.

I think long term, this will seem better for us as individual sellers, but worse for Ebays reputation due to the first point - and thats not good for any seller.

That wont matter. You could have 10 days delivery time. The buyer can come in on day 20, having received the item on day 5, and say it wasnt delivered on time. if they believe it took longer than it "should have", regardless of being delivered according to pre determined dates, they will still leave a defect, as they always have.

Buyers arent going to take the time and effort to remember or check dates etc. just to leave a seller feedback in many cases.

I had an INR "case" opened 2 days ago and refunded straight away. A defect showed for cancelled transaction for a day and then dissapeared.I have had a similar thing happen with the there and gone before.

All ebay is doing is making it legit for some of the big box sellers (and no doubt others), they are manufacturing policies around them to suite. So come next year they are better and able to trade on a level playing field.........

Granted, a "late delivery" is not going to be a defect as such, and allows for a higher percentage, but I can't believe they still insist on retaining some kind of system that leaves (some) sellers entirely at the mercy of a buyer's click - by the sounds of it, it's all going to be automated and they won't even reconsider a 'late delivery' mark, defect or whatever they want to call it, if the buyer leaves FB before the ETA, confirming receipt of the item, but ticking the 'no' box.

What's more, I just don't even understand why it's necessary to confirm (with the buyer) whether the package arrived by eBay's (made up) ETA. If buyers have a problem with something, the majority of them will let the seller know one way or another, creating a problem that probably wouldn't be even a small issue, let alone a major one, in any other circumstance, is just plain idiocy in my book.

the whole handling time thing is a farse. I actually get customers saying items should arrive sooner, like it's canon. To qualify for the premium service it needs to be one day or less handling as well. Stop the white lies ebay and fix the postage system, oh waite, they couldn't fix it years ago. Ebay must have terbytes^2 of data that means nothing (or something) from 2 servers.

My main beef with the ontime postage is simply that it is not a reflection on me as a seller buit on the APO. I post every day - I can't do more than that. In no way can I fathom why I should be punished if the APO does not deliver on time. I have frequesnt questions from buyers asking about the item not arriving on time stated by eBay and buyers seem to understand that some delays do occur and its not the seller's fault. However these questions may turn into some form of defect/black mark - and how many of these do we need for our sales to be affected? THEN add the changes to letter deliveries (only delivering "standard" mail evey other day) and I get even more nervous. For both issues, the detail is needed so I can understand the potential impact.

I undersand that some sellers change handling times to 5-10 days to give themselves a greater delivery window, but as a buyer I would not purchase from a seller who did not post more frequently than 5-10 days.

Unsurprisingly, the ETAs often became expected due dates. And now eBay are treating them like one too, so in a nutshell they're making promises to buyers based on something neither eBay nor the seller has genuine control of, and holding sellers accountable if eBay's promise is not met (in some circumstances, of course).

If a seller can prove (via tracking) that they shipped within their handling time, eBay will accept that the delay was no fault of the seller, and they won't get whacked with eBay's proverbial stick. If a seller can't prove they posted within their handling time, suddenly eBay automatically assume the delay has to be the sellers fault.

I question this, on several grounds. Ok, fine, I can't prove I posted it within my handling time, but eBay can't prove I didn't, so why do they get to damage my account standing on what is ultimately an unsubstantiated assumption (insert "their site, their rules" replies here).

The dumb thing is event sellers who use trackable parcels will not be safe dropping them in a street box. The result is rather than being able to ship ASAP (I do this numerous times a day) they are supposed to wait until they can cart the lot to a post office. This will ultimately slow shipping and almost definately negate the ability to offer 1 day handling..How does this benefit Ebay and or buyers?

But big sellers will most likely have AP courier pick ups, so it wont affect them.. Just another subtle nail in the coffin for small sellers
