Sign me up.

I have spoken to eBay today about the new system and its potential impact on sellers who send items via large letters which are not tracked. There seems some acceptance of an unintended consequence of the defect changes which were introduced "to ensure sellers were not held accountable for issues outside their control". They are still devising how it will be opertationalised so feel free to pass on your suggestions. One option is for eBay to accept a lodgement receipt from the APO as proof of "on-tme" lodgement for items without tracking - very painful for the APO but my local post office will be willing to issue lodgement confirmation for each of my items if this will keep me in business (and keep me buying products from them).

In the absence of eBay using common sense and respect for their sellers when devising these kinds of policies, Australia Post - or any other company for that matter - would win my love and loyalty forever if they would simply provide online proof of lodgement for any and all articles. Tracking / further scanning not necessary, just give me something to prove I posted it, and on what date. 🙂

DG on another post I saw you wrote something about wishing Auspost just gave confirmation of lodgement for each item.

I see a business opportunity there! imagine printing millions of lodgement slips, and getting a contract to supply those to all Aus post offices.

They sit beside the tills and all the person sending needs to do is put the recipeitns name / postcode and the Aus post person would check it matches the letter, then date stamp the slip (with the official Auspost stamp) for those who handed the letter over the counter. No need for a till receipt.

It would also get more people into Auspost shops, therefore increase sales for them in general.

You'll be rich!

You could just generate and print lodgement barcodes, which could then (in my ideal world) be bulk lodged through a system/machine where a package can't be retreived once the barcode is scanned and accepted. If they were just to prove lodgement, then there'd be no need to do anything else with their systems, posties would recognise them as not needing to be scanned on delivery etc so shouldn't increase actual AP processing and delivery times (I'm still prepared to take responsibility for delivery, as I always have done), and eBay couldn't whack me when their promises to buyers aren't met by people who never made those promises in the first place.

Dont kid yourself mail doesn't just go in a straight line from door to door. It can often go way over the other side of a major city to a sorting depot and back again. I often scratch my head in wonder when you follow the tracking path..

This new system really should only be introduced if street boxes have integral scanners..(can't imagine that)

AP dont want people in post offices, thats the main point of all this prepaid parcel system. This policy is just pushing people backythe other way. Creating a postral label is not an acceptance scan, even if it does upload a tracking number. So its not just a letter rate issue.

I can see AP not being onboard with this policy

I wonder what is wrong with the good old Postage Book that all small businesses used years ago.

Every item of mail was listed with full address and was taken to the PO along with the mail. The PO checked each and every piece of mail and stamped the book with their official stamp. There was your proof or posting and even the PO accepted it as proof that an item had been posted in the event of anything going astray.

And there was a lot less lost mail than there is today.

I asked at the PO about stamping a book as you described My PO is a proper PO not a /newsagency. They refused to do this as a "misuse" of the stamp. Apparently there are a plethora of federal laws around the stamp, and they do not want something stamped that could be miscontrued to be used in a way that was not intended and out of their control.

So, not withstanding the argument on another thread, my PO is very happy for me to take a photograph of the stamped letter before they take it away. I haven't had to test if it works with an INR, I've heard it's successful with paypal but have not heard anything about fighting ebay cases.
