What the hell is it lately with bidders pulling out after they have won the item?

Last week I had 4 items up for sell... one person brought it with no problem but now I have 3 other people saying that "they made a mistake" or "Sorry I cannot afford it"

3 out of 4 auctions wasted!! all that time is wasted!

Open disputes as you do not know how many others have been through the same thing, add them to your BBL and put in place the blocks to stop non payers that have been issued strikes.

One lady worked well with me on the issue and that has been fixed now.. but I'm still waiting replies from two others... One I sent a cancellation case to and now I'm just waiting her reply....

The other has not replied to any of my emails yet but I will late a little longer and if she still has not replied after a few more days than I will open an unpaid items case.. 😞 it's sooooo annoying to have this happen...

I don't think you can open a unpaid item case if you already sent a cancelation. I used to do that when I first started [mr nice guy] not anymore as too many after sending a boo-hoo story would not bother clicking on it and I was left paying the ebay fees.

also with a cancelation they can leave feedback [can be negative if there a nutter] but with an unpaid case they cannot leave feedback or it will be automatically removed when you close the case.

take it as a learning curve on what to do in the future. cheers

You have to handle this in professional manner and not allow yourself to get upset. EBay already sends buyers reminder on 2nd day, so no need to do anything until about day 4 or 5; either another reminder or open dispute. How ridiculous to say they cannot afford something they bid on. It is not like your items are hundreds of dollars.

Definitely NEVER send a mutual cancellation unless you are absolutely 100% sure they will click YES.

Here's an example from the buyer's perspective

I bid on an item and won it

Arranged my schedule in order to bid

The item had been for sale for several days

There were several other bidders beside me

I emailed the seller seeking contact details and to arrange pick up at mutually convenient time

No response

Then a response from seller to say they 'couldn't' sell it because of this, that, blah blah. They asked me to agree to mutual cancellation

I replied I did not want to cancel

Filled in an online form for ebay, explaining I didn't want to cancel

Didn't hear anything for a couple of days. Then when I looked in My Ebay, there was a small print comment from ebay at the bottom of the item I'd won. It said that because I had refused to agree to cancel, Ebay itself had undertaken to 'close the case'

I think Ebay does this to create friction and to contribute to the breakdown of civility within society generally

Yes. A waste of my time. And it's my suspicion the seller decided not to honour the sale because she didn't get as much as she wanted for that item

Ebay lays down the rules. And then Ebay breaks those rules

EBay's not all that popular these days

Your case is for a pickup. A small minority of eBay sales.

In general, if the bidder doesn't pay within four days, open a dispute. Four days later, close it.

Even if the person does not reply all I have to do is close the case and I still get refunded the fee's (that's what ebay says) Or do you mean not to do it because it lets bad bidders get away ??

Ugh I hate that too! I mean hell even I have to sell things for way under there cost (even wholesale cost) if that's what the person wins it for. Plus it is nice to have some happy customers, I did get some nice feedback today so it does make it all worth while 😄

polocross58 when you refused the mutual cancellation ebay would indeed close the case and they would close it without giving the seller a refund of their Final Value Fee which is why they asked you to mutually cancel, you were also free to leave them a neg feedback which would not be removed as the seller could not open an unpaid item dispute once the mutual cancellation was closed.

EBay told me in a message that this wouldn't happen. I have looked at the case and it says that I will not receive a final fee credit.

Why?

I opened a case to cancel a transaction and the buyer agreed with wanting to cancel. After 7 days, I closed the case however I have been charged a final fee still,

EBay told me in a message that this wouldn't happen. I have looked at the case and it says that I will not receive a final fee credit.

Why?

Because the buyer did not officially agree to cancel via the link in the request message. by closing the case prior to the 7 days you negated the option to get your fees back, ebay allows 7 days for the buyer to respond to a cancellation request, if they do not then ebay will close it "after" 7 days in which case the seller gets a fee credit.

I recommend to open non paying bidder disputes, its quicker, the buyer can`t leave retaliatory feedback, and the buyer gets a strike.
