No it never corrects street names only Towns if not spelt correctly

Or in the Australia posts first town for that post code, I know it is very trivia , but I have filled in a complaint to the Australian Consumers affairs , as to me it is a money grab, also who is responsible , the buyer for suppling incorrect address , us as sellers for not double checking with customer that all details are correct , or Ebay no making sure when buyers register on Ebay that there address is correct.

I have been in business for over 30 years , sent 1000s of items thru Australia Post ,never confronted this!

Last week we sent a parcel off to a customer from a ebay sale ,Printed out a Ebay Australia pre paid label, generated from the customers address from his ebay site, I think we all know how it works.

Today the parcel was returned from Australia post stating the address is incorrect,

So we contacted the buyer to ask what is his address, I won’t state the number but will say what was generated on the original label was

(Bryne Street Ashcroft NSW )

The buyer had this on his Ebay check out address, so it was printed out as that.

When we rang him he stated his address is all correct but a slight spelling mistake, should be (THE SECOND LETTER IN THE STREET NAME SHOULD HAVE BEEN Y NOT R)

(Byrne Street Ashcroft NSW)

This very slight mistake was rejected by Australia post and returned to us, we contacted Australia post there reply was it is up to you as a sender that address is correct , because , computers these days sort most parcels , very disappointed our Aussy Public company looks like it has been sold out to no care all profit business.

I would now say this will be a major problem for all of us.

Thats crazy. Its very often we see spelling mistakes in address data.
I never worry about it unless I think it's critical. Then I will edit. We send by large letter so it's not an issue to correct addresses.
I wonder if our letters will start rejecting for this reason. Not seen this yet.

I have never had the label creator for the ebay branded satchels allow any mistakes in the address, it just comes up with an error message and you have to go check using google maps what the correct form is.

PJ I knew the label Creator checks for town against postcode. But I didn't know it was able to validate street name or number as well.
Like you we use Google maps when checking addresses.

This is not new - last year I had two items returned to me because of a one letter spelling mistake. Really! You must have better customers Lol

Ive also had them send back because buyers put a second locator (like some random creek running through their property!) on their address (including their regular address), and writing suburb or state in the incorrect format, even with correct postcode, for example -

123 la la St

blah blah

North Vic

Instead of

123 lala st

Blah blah North

Vic

Either way, you posted to the address provided by the buyer - their fault it was returned to you.

I gave my buyers the option to pay for postage AGAIN and supply correct address, or cancel the item and get a refund, not including postage costs. From memory they usually pay postage again rather than cancel.

I don't use eBay labels or click and send, but still have to check google maps at times. The most annoying one was:

Joe Bloggs

14 First St

NSW

Do you know how many First Streets there are in NSW? The buyer seemed annoyed when I asked them where abouts in NSW they actually lived. Both eBay and PayPal were missing the town/suburb name and post code, so no idea how they managed to ever get anything delivered!

I know if you manually process an adress in c & s, it makes auto prompts for a correct address. So you know it is a real one.

Is there a real bryne st?

Well that's just ridiculous !!! And if it was hand-written would it have been returned?

What about Thompson - Tompson - Thomson street? I know for a fact that items still reach residents who received incorrectly spelled street address items in this case.

Well, thanks for the heads up on this one. Does that mean we have to "check" every address ............ surely not?

the son works at our local Australia post , they know all streets and roads locally and this would not be a problem locally , but as what the rep from Australia post stated this parcel was procesed my machine and rejected it, without human handling

I believe it is another excuss just to rip the customer off

following what big multi nationals would do or Banks , no cutomer service just take
