i believe it's only 30 days clarry for a claim through ebay as INR

http://pages.ebay.com/ebay-money-back-guarantee/questions.html

What timelines should I be aware of?

Seller’s return window: Review the seller’s return policy and return window before you make a purchase.

If you did not receive the item, or the item is not as described, you have 30 days from your actual or latest estimated delivery date to open a request, under the eBay Money Back Guarantee.

We have just received a message from a buyer claiming that their item has not arrived 60-days after we sent it out.

It went by large letter so no tracking at all.

They are a new buyer (FB score = 4) so no FB history of problems.

I've sent back a message asking the usual questions -- verify address, check at youir local PO, ask neighbours etc.

Nothing back yet tho.

Are they still able to open a formal INR claim (with either ebay or paypal) after this period of time?

How does someone not notice for 2-months they have not received their order?

The order value was $31.

I was chatting to a work colleague a few months ago and he scoffed when I mentioned eBay, claiming that he once bought something off there but it never arrived. When I told him that there were buyer protection systems in place, he seemed quite surprised.

Quite possibly, your buyer is in a similar boat. Having only used eBay a few times, perhaps they were initially oblivious to buyer protection systems in place until somebody else made them aware?

If it helps, I recall reading somewhere that INRs do not count for defects if they are raised two months or more after an item ends. I don't have a link to back that up off-hand though.

Yep understand totally what you are saying there.

But they always have easy access to send an email/message to the seller (as they have done now) to ask about it after a couple of weeks perhaps. Just seems rather odd that its taken them two months to send that query.

its not unusual for people to forget they brouht an item and then remember later, i woulld of had at least a dozen this year up to $100 each ,people do forget , i try and contact them ,and most say i forgot all about it , but you are right a couple of months is a bit rich to claim inr.

you get the ones that ask where it is after 1 day and you get the ones that forget all about it.

That would be because our items average about $10 each and to put tracking on those would up the price so much that we would never sell anything. So we have to work with that risk.

In this particular case the buyer bought a few items where the total was $31 and we sent them all in the one envelope. Even then to pay for parcel tracking on a $31 purchase would wipe out all our profit margin.

Once orders reach more than $50 we will send in a tracked C&S 500 gram satchel.
