On the 8th (ay 2:45pm) I ordered a pair of trainers from an Ebay seller they arrived today the 11th which made me very happy so off I went to leave glowing feedback. The part that asks did this item arrive by said the 10th that made me go **bleep** and I ticked yes anyway. However if I had been just a buyer more than likely I may of ticked no and the seller would of got a defect. It bugged me so I messaged the seller to let them know then look at the sale I noticed that instead of 2 dates the 10th to 15th or whatever it just had the 10 the second date was missing.

Now this is clearly a glitch and I am wondering how many sellers are losing ratings they work hard for because of things like this

for what it's worth....my orders (purchases) coming from overseas don't make the timeframe....but because I'm a seller I recognise this and always lie....and say it got here in good time...let the seller know in my fb what day it got here, and that I'm happy...bugger Ebay's timeframe...

I did the same. eBay said was it delivered by 10th which was a Friday, item arrived Monday, so I still ticked yes because it was posted quickly. The whole thing is flawed because regardless when you post it, particularly within your time frame, a buyer can easily tick no.

the defects I've copped that show how the system will work next year, are for items posted within my time frame, but shows as post office defect

It's not a defect in the sense that you are used to, but more a measurement of late delivery performance.
As I understand it goes like this...
If you use large letter without tracking then you are entirely at the mercy of buyer answers. You need to remain under a 5% ratio to stay off the eBay radar. That is 1 NO answer for every 20 YES answers. If you drop over 5% then you may lose your TRS status. If you drop over 10% then you will have eBay on your case for remedial action. So you have to hope and pray for plenty of YES answers.

If you use tracking then it's a bit different...
If your tracking can show proof that you have a lodgement scan within your stated handling time, then your are protected from late delivery by the carrier. If the tracking is Australia Post, then at the moment eBay can see their tracking records automatically and your buyer will not even get the question about delivery. Other tracking if they answer NO then you will need to get on the phone to have the late delivery point removed.
If you do not have a lodgement scan event but your tracking shows delivery inside eBay's estimated delivery date the as above you are protected.

The only defects you will get under the new system will be for cases opened against you as it has been. No more defects for neg or neut feedback or low star ratings.

Thanks for the clarification Clarry.

Thank heavens most of my sold items are sent as parcels not letters, and I lodge them and get a receipt at the PO. I post same day if it is paid for by about 2pm, next day if not, I don't post at weekends, even on Saturdays (I give myself the time off!). So except for the few items I send as letters, I should be OK.

But as I know you and many others use large letters almost all the time, I can see why you would be worried. For those few items I send as letters, I may have to rethink it next year.

Yes it will be even more important, with this new system, if you are using tracking to make sure you lodge over the counter and get that lodgement scan event inside your stated handling time. Then you are 100% protected from carrier delays such as the train derailment on the Nullarbor last week.

If you do not have this lodgement scan then you leave yourself open to carrier delays even if you really did mail it inside your handling time.

If you use the red street boxes for tracked parcels you better rethink that becasue you do not get a lodgement scan from there. Usually the first scan event is the delivery scan, or the initiated event which does not count.

Marking items as "posted" will not count as any proof they have been mailed either.
