Posting Items to PO Boxes

Hi there,

out of curiosity... have you guys been having a lot of problems posting non registered items to PO Boxes?

im asking because i just had a request claiming the item was never received, and in the last couple of months i have been having a few issues with items sent to PO Boxes... im actually considering not posting items to PO Boxes anymore...

Yes I used to have problems and it was always with non registered mail,so then I always posted registered then the problem stopped.

Im not to sure why the mail went missing and I don't want to speculate about what I beleive was happening if you know what I mean.

So the bottom line is never post without registered post to a PO Box.

If mail to PO boxes is going missing, then you need to speak to the post office as they are the ones that put it in the boxes.

Joe, do you understand how PO Boxes work?

The mail is delivered to the post office and the staff are responsible for putting it into the boxes from inside the post office. If an item is too large they put a card in the box and the box owner has to go inside the PO and collect the mail...the same way a householder has to cllect any mail that is carded at their home address.

The PO staff is quite capable of mislaying items in the PO.

thats why i am asking , i know how its done that way. but these posters say the buyers dont get them .so they go missing either in the postoffice or are they not getting to the postoffice , or do they go in staff bags.

Very rarely do the PO staff steal mail. It would be very easy to see a pattern of items arriving at the PO but never being received by the addressee. The PO worker would be sacked on the spot.

Plus, post office staff are subjected to regular searches as are the PO couriers and StarTrack drivers.

Despite the regular accusations of light fingered postal workers it is not as easy as people may think.

Not forgetting that presumably the OP doesn't post to a single post office/area.

Online shoplifters who claim the item didn't arrive in their PO box would be just as likely to claim it didn't arrive in their letterbox, so there is no additional risk in posting to a PO box. In fact, for parcels, it gets rid of the chance of a bat stealing the item from the postie or somebody picking it up from the top of the letterbox or the front porch.

I used to have a PO Box here in Alelaide and the number of times when I went to collect my mail only to find mail addressed to other PO Boxes. I would always take it in side and hand it over the counter and explain that it was in my Box and not the correct one, The last time this happened I canceled my box because the woman wanted me to pay the postage to have it placed in the proper box..I will not say what I said but it wasn't nice and closed the box there and then.

I regularly get mail that's meant for the same PO box number at a different post office (different suburb, same post code), so there's quite a number of (internal / system) ways mail to boxes can go wrong (I know the other box has received my mail, too, because I've also received mail that has "NOT xxxxxx, XXXXXX!!" angrily written on it ).

I send items out to PO boxes pretty much every day, though, and so far experience far more delivery issues to street addresses.

you would think it easier for aus post to deliver to post boxes , but how can a post box number with the same postcode be in a different suburb , aus post have over 20 people on over $500.000 a year , you would think 1 of those could fix this problem.

Post codes are often shared between adjacent suburbs, but when there is more than one post office with PO boxes within the same post code, the boxes are actually supposed to be numbered differently (i.e one PO will have boxes numbered 1-200, the next PO will have boxes numbered 201-500, or what have you).

The other post office is (or rather was) a Business Centre, and I'm not entirely sure which one came first or why they weren't numbered the way most others are, but the business centre was shut down and now it's pretty much just there for the boxes, and closes at 2pm every day.

it reminds me of a place i worked a long time ago pretty much a family business, and one day i needed a hand in the warehouse and yelled out mario , and 3 blokes yelled out what , so i yelled out mario casa and still 3 bloke said what , i just did it myself, this family were old school were family cousins and uncles and so were all called mario . 2 of the cousins lived in the same house ,i wonder how they went with the mail.

Joe, where .I live there a 4 suburbs with the same postcode and 3 of them have post offices. One is a full post office and 2 are LPOs.

All of them have post boxes.

Several members of my family have had boxes at different post offices for over 30 years without any major problems.

On the odd occasion when mail was in the wrong box we were told to just put it back into the street postbox as we usually collected our mail outside the post offices opening hours.

There were never any dramas....the mail was just redelivered to the correct box.

Its soo depressing to come into these threads for some intelligent convo about business related things and then theres you two.

No one cares which one of you is right or wrong, or semantics, or the bizarre stuff you argue over. Can you at least do it via private messages?

well well well for a start we are not arguing on this thread if i cant talk to lyndal about this thread on post boxes ,well il be.

she is just stating about 3 of her family members who use these boxes,

ps you dont have to read it or post about it.

remember posts have different opinions ,which is good remember there are 2 sides to most stories .mmmmmmmmmmmmm
