How do I do a partial refund to my buyer.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to do a partial refund for postage only....

A buyer from the US bought and paid for an item. I sent with signature on delivery. The parcel was carded twice then returned to me and the buyer has put a request in through the resolution centre to get a refund or repost the item. We have agreed for her to receive a refund on the item but not the postage - How do I do this?

Will I get a defect? Please help?

Assuming the item was paid for with paypal........

1) Hover your mouse over the menu next to item in "sold items". Click on "View paypal transaction."

2) You will be asked to sign into your paypal account.

3) Once the transaction details show, there will be a blue link around half way down the page which says "refund this payment" or similar.

4) Click on this and then ammend total cost shown in box to the figure you have agreed with buyer.

5)Then click Confirm and the refund will be sent to your buyers account.

Sometimes the link in sold items does not work. If this happens, just go into your paypal account and click on the transaction.

I have never recieved a defect for partial refunds.

The easiest way is to logon to your PayPal account, click on 'Pay or send money' then 'Send money to friends or family'.

Log into your PayPal account, it doesn't matter that it's over 69 day. All transactions are showing there use the next button down the bottom of page if you don't see the transaction on the first one.

I would advise against using this method as there will be no record in ebay of any refund ever being made.

The buyer can then insist they have never received any refund and you could end up having to refund again.

Bit risky unless you 100% trust your buyer to do the right thing.

I don't think it's a problem if you add a note to it saying, refund for ebay item number ####

Thank you all for your responses....... If I refund thru the resolution centre pathway will it automatically refund entire amount or can I nominate the amount to refund?

By clicking the "refund the buyer" option will it refund the entire amount?

Or should I just do it thru paypal as you have advised and included the item number?

Find the transaction in PayPal, click on it to expand it and there should be a button to refund. When you get to the next screen you should be able to put in how much you want to refund.

Just be aware that if you are refunding an overseas buyer they may get more or less money back depending on the exchange rate.
