Defect for Late Shipment

Hey Everyone. Just wanted to check with everyone here because I know I will get a straight answer, instead of calling CS. I have just noticed I have a Late defect Rating - Carrier Says late delivery. Customer ordered it on 14th February, AP scanned it on 16th Feb, then 17th, 18th, 20th all scanned again, then finally delivered to QLD (im in Sydney) on 25th Feb. Should I call Ebay and question the defect or let sleeping dogs lie.

What was the estimated delivery date? Did you get a lodgment scan, or just drop it in the red box?

Not sure what the estimate was - when I go back into the order, it doesn't state it, just says 4 business days. I use couriers, so this was AP Express. Uploaded tracking information within 24hrs.

It depends on what your handling time is and whether the first Aus Post scan is within it.

eg If you have a 0-day handling time, dispatch on Tuesday would be after that so it's considered "late".

I'm honestly not sure how eBay count 1 business day in terms of purchases made on a Sunday. I know that if someone buys something on a Monday, it's due to be posted by the next day, but whether that means postage on Monday for a Sunday purchases, I have no idea.

Obviously if your handling time is 2 or more days, then postage or a scan event on Tuesday will mean it was posted on time, and you should be able to get eBay to remove the late shipment.

Handling time I have is 2 days. This was ordered on a sunday afternoon, I had it despatched Monday and upload tracking on the Tuesday morning. I understand if I posted it late or something, but how can the courier say that they deem it to be delivered late, when they delivered it late.

In that case I think it's worth calling eBay - handling time is business days, and 2 business days after Sunday is Tuesday, so you're able to prove the package was with the courier within your stated handling time and the late shipment shouldn't count against you.

Also, you might want to consider increasing handling time to 3 days, whilst continuing to despatch ASAP. Gives you a bit of leeway with ebay's unrealistic estimates.

I had thought of that aswell. I only increased it at the start of the year from 1 to 2 days. as I said, if it was my fault, (as in I didn't ship it on time or didn't have tracking) I'd cop it sweet, but I think I have/had done everything right yet still got a defect.

late delivery is just that...late DELIVERY...not late posting....complain...complain...complain...surely someone has common sense to fix this

When eBay says "carrier reported", they don't mean that someone form the courier company told them it was delivered late, they mean that the tracking shows that it was delivered late. In that event, if you have a tracking event showing lodgement was made inside your handling time, ring eBay and ask for the defect to be removed.

Similarly, when eBay says "buyer reported", that doesn't mean the buyer actually complained that the item was late, it just means that, when leaving feedback, the buyer answered no to the question "Was the item received by xxx date". Not the buyer's fault, we can't expect them to lie.

Having had to argue over & over with eBay to have a Defect removed due to 'Late Shipment', even though I posted with Tracking within 1 Business day, I caved in and extended mine to 2 days also. I copped a defect for an order received after 6pm on 25th January and I posted on 27th - could not get through to eBay that 26th was Aust. Day Public Holiday !! It took about 5 messages, all with a copy of the Post Office receipt etc attached, but eventually the defect was removed, so be persistent.

your title says defect for late shipment however your post says defect for late delivery, Which is it?

If the estimated delivery date was 4 days as you said bu it didn't arrive until the 25th them of course you are going to get a defect for late delivery.

I've been adding a note to my sold items with the estimate date, otherwise, it's as you said, the dates disappear once the tracking says delivered. I'm doing my own private study. So far, with my 5 day handling time, everything has been arriving before the first date.

Sorry, late delivery. I posted within my handling time, with tracking. The tracking confirms I despatched the item within that time.

Yes fight this one. They will remove the defect.

If your tracking shows that your item was in the hands of the carrier inside your stated handling time then any associated defect will be removed, regardless of when the carrier actually delivered the item. Or the buyer said it was delivered.

This new system does indeed protect the seller against late delivery by carriers. But the trick is to ensure you have a lodgement scan inside your stated handling time. This is why its so important now to lodge over the counter and get that initial scan.

If you don't have this lodgement scan then you can only hope that your carrier delivers inside the ebay estimated delivery date and that they scan on delivery. For my money the first option is the safest and totally within your control.

Feeling your pain.

Just got my first neutral in ages. Posted item within 1 day of payment, packed well. Regular tracked mail, Australia Post. It took TWO weeks to go 40 kilometres and one of the items was broken.

Think it was used in the first round of the AFL....

Buyer never contacted me in this time, and left a neutral without giving me a chance to respond. I have given a partial refund anyway.

Oh, I have just discovered that I have a defect for late shipment on my dashboard - because I sent a large letter and didn't mark it "posted" until a few hours later (which just tipped me over my 3 day handling period as the buyer purchased on Friday afternoon and I posted on Monday afternoon).

My bad. I guess I shouldn't've stopped at Woolies and for petrol on the way home, and then I wouldn't have the defect.

Large letter (without tracking) late delivery defects are purely based upon what answer the buyer gives when leaving feedback.

If they answer NO to the question about was it received before xxx date you will get the defect.

The fact that you marked it as "Posted" within your handling time counts for nothing. This is simply a transaction status and nothing more.

When using large letter (as we do) then because you do not have tracking and can therefore prove nothing re the postage date your are always at the mercy of the buyer's answer and ebay will never remove any such defects.
