I'm-a get out the apples again.... (Not really).

This is another mathematical equation - x ÷ y = z

X is the total (accumulative) score of all the stars you've received (over the past 12 months), Y is the number of ratings you've received, Z is the final result.

So, you've had 14 ratings. Lets assume that one person left you 1 star for description, and everyone else left you 5 stars.

The first part is 13 x 5 + 1, to get a total of 66.

66 ÷ 14 = 4.7 (rounded to the nearest decimal).

If 5 more buyers come along and all leave 5 stars, then it would be

18 x 5 + 1 = 91

91 ÷ 19 = 4.8 (rounded up from 4.78)

Or, to put it simply, you would need about 80 buyers to leave you a full 5 stars from here on in to go back up to 5.

The star ratings buyers leave for you are a separate thing from the feedback rating they leave you.

They are just done at the same time is all.

Until Feb the seller used to get a defect if a buyer left a star rating of 3 or less for anything.

And you also used to get a defect if they left a NEUT or NEG feedback.

But these two defects are no longer applicable now.

Don't forget also there is the answer to the question "did the item arrive before xx date"

If the buyer gives a NO answer to this you will get a late shipment defect.

If you drop below 5% on these you may start to have selling restrictions imposed in some form or other.

If you have tracking that shows you lodged the package within your stated handling time and/or that the item actually arrived before the ebay estimated delivery date then you can get this defect removed. Otherwise it will stay.

From 14 star ratings with a score of 4.7 for item description and communication, apart from the ones you and your friends left for yourself which would have been 5 stars, the legitimate buyers have probably left you between 1 and 3 stars when they rated you. More likely 1 or 2 stars due to the rating being so poor. For postage time, the legitimate buyers probably left 3 or 4 stars. You can check who gave you what star rating, but you need 10 ratings that are 5 stars to be able to accurately assess, which you don't have (or I highly doubt you do).

If you keep getting low ratings, your stars are going to look rather sad over the next few months. You're just lucky you're selling now and not before Feb or else you would have fallen below standard by now and probably not able to sell. Consider yourself very lucky! It will take a long time for you to be able to get your stars up to 5.
