What Do I Do Now ?

Item sold was specifically stated as pick up only.

Next I get this message:

Hi,
I have just purchased this artifical tree. Before I pay I want to make sure that you can wrap it for me and I will arrange TNT to pick it up.? If so please send me your address and phone number. Once wrapped I will need the dimensions and weight of the parcel. I hope you are happy to do that as I live on the sunshine Coast and can't personally pick it up.
Much Appreciated

No matter how much I would like to please my buyers - I can't comply with any of the above and I'm a bit peeved that all these requests were done AFTER this item was purchased and not before.

I contacted the buyer and explained this item is strictly pick up and as such the transaction needs to be cancelled. I sent a cancellation request and of course have heard nothing from this buyer since.

What do I do now as I've run out of procedures to follow and don't want to be stuck with FVF fee for a non sale........

Information I read on another thread, says that cancellation requests time out if no response after ten days, and you get your fees back.

However, it is possible the buyer can still leave feedback (same thread).

Thread is "thoughts please", posts 9 and 11.

There is possibly one way arround it if you want to meet half way with the buyer. You can suggest to them they arrange transport via pack and send. They would need to contact them and pcik up the item. Pack and send package the item for the buyer at their cost. It would be very little inconvenience for yourself just a convenient time to arrange collection which would be the case for a pick up. I had the same thing happen with a large grandfather clock with the buyer in WA (I am in Melbourne). I suggested pack and send and all went well. P&S collected the large grandfather clock and it was out my hands after that. Just a suggestion.

Be warned that if the seller arranges the pick up then neither of you have buyer or seller protection. This may sound OK however if the buyer starts a bank chargeback you will lose as you have no proof of posting.

I would have found out from Pack & Send how much a tracked delivery would cost and would have added that to the invoice then you are in control and have the proof needed to prevent a chargeback.

If you are not prepared to do as the buyer wishes then just wait and see if theyagree to the cancellation or let it time out and if that happens block them and relist. If they try to challange the cancelation call ebay and explain what is going on.

I am a bit confused.

The cancellation system has signficantly changed from what it has been in the past.

If you send through a cancellation the buyer does not have to accept the cancellation anymore for it to be processed as a cancellation.

If the item has been paid for you need to issue a refund to finalise the cancellation and get your FVF fees back.

If the buyer did not pay you should have already been refunded your FVF when you initiated the cancellation.

If the above is not the case then contact eBay as something has gone amiss.

The cancellation process is detailed here: http://pages.ebay.com.au/help/sell/cancel-transaction-process.html

I have experienced having a seller cancel for "buyer requested cancellation or there is a problem with buyers address" even though this was not true ( It think they were out of stock) and there was not option for me to agree to it -

I was just advised the seller cancelled the transaction. So the advertised eBay process seems to be working as described, at least it did in my case.

I had a similar thing with a very large encyclopedia set. They really wanted it and were prepared to pay for shipping. I rang a courier to get a price and emailed the buyer with that. It ended up costing them about $70 for the shipping but they were happy to pay it, so I sent it.

If Pack and send is arranged by the buyer then the buyer is responisble from the collection point. There is proof of collection via pack and track records.

Thank you all for your replies; it is very much appreciated.

E-Bays wording in a cancellation request is really poor/confusing to me (the seller) as it most likely must be to the buyer.

In the confirmation email (to me the seller) it states that I "agreed to cancel the order".

Next it rambles on about refunding the buyer and that E-Bay will check with the buyer that I have refunded (!)

There is nothing to refund as the buyer never paid in the first place; the item in question is "pick up only" and the buyer is in another state.

I don't know what is in the e-mail to the buyer, but if it is anything as confusing/irrelevant as the email to me, there is no hope of ever sorting anything out properly or logically on this site ......

Yes the wording is silly, but the result is the same. The buyer has a certain no of days to respond and tick accept, and even if they don't after a few more days it gets cancelled anyway.

But do not list it until this happens.

There are two.

In the past fortnight, at least.

One I had was a seller cancellation due to my buyer change of mind. I was given the chance to respond. Which I did with a note of accepting it but with the real reason of out of stock.

The second, a seller automatically generated cancellation, as my "immediate Paypal payment required" did not go through. There was a Paypal problem with the security token...on the third try payment was accepted. However, I received two cancellation notices which had no opportunity for reply.

So at least two types doing the rounds. That may have been an eBay abberation due to some glitch, but I got them.

There are two cancellation processes depending on whether the buyer has paid by paypal or not.

If the buyer has paid by any other method, ebay cannot detect this. So...

If the buyer has paid by paypal, then the seller can refund, ebay detects the refund has occured so the buyer does not need to confirm anything and the transaction is concluded.

If the buyer hasn't paid or paid via a method outside of paypal, ebay gives the buyer 10 days to cofirm they have been refunded before the transaction is closed.

EDIT - amber I don't know for sure about your situation with the ones you didn't get a chance to respond to, probably due to the automatic payment required thingo. I haven't had a problem getting one of those paid before

So that confirms for the OP that the buyer was given a chance to respond, as they hadn't actually paid.

Like for me with the out of stock one.

Which makes sense as the buyer (in general) can have paid another way and not had it marked.
