Good bye Ebay

I don't mind fees, but I am done with ebays arbitrary restrictions and limits on my account so that I can't sell anything. I only sold one item this month so not overly active. I always paid my bills and always got positive feedback both as buyer and seller.

The worst is that they didn't tell me the limits but kept leading me to believe it could be fixed. It was not until the mail thread below that I knew there was no hope:

Thanks for your reply and for explaining the reason behind the most recent restriction.

However, I am not happy because

* Ebay has not in any way been upfront and explained the limits so I have wasted the past two weeks jumping through hoops to troubleshoot what I thought was an error.
* The limits are arbitrary, ridiculously low and serve no purpose whatsoever in regard to security so I do not accept them.
* I have always paid my bills and always received positive feedback both as buyer and seller. Ebay has no legitimate reason to restrict my account.
* I have been a member of ebay since year 2000 and in those 13 years have come to rely on ebay for the odd sale or purchase. I can no longer do so.

It is with a heavy heart but having wasted so much time the past two weeks only to realise that ebay does not want me as a customer I have no choice but to delete my account.

I will post this correspondence in the relevant public fora to warn others of ebay.

The main reason why you are unable to list more is that you have already exhausted your limits. Let me explain that on every selling account, limits have been placed to allow us to learn about your selling activity and make sure that you're adhering to our selling practices policy and performance standards. Limits vary by seller and can change over time.

Please be aware that for each calendar month, you may only list and sell up to 10 items (active + sold) or $107.00 (active + sold), whichever comes first. The most recent adjustment on your selling limits was done last 3/14/2013.

If you wish to have these limits raised, you are required to work within these margins for at least 90 days. This means you may do so this coming 6/12/2013.

Once you are eligible, you are welcome to contact our general support team for assistance in requesting for higher selling limits on your account. You may reach them at 1-800-322-928 between 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM AEST/AEDST (Mon-Fri).

Thanks for your reply and support. I didn't know about APM, but have followed your instructions and successfully registered APM with PayPal (see attached proof). So I went through my ad again, passed telephone id check and submitted. Still same result - there is some mysterious limit (see attached).

Can you please help me?

Thanks for contacting us back.

I noticed that you don't have an APM (automatic payment method) on file. To be able to list an item, eBay requires an APM. This is to make sure a member can sustain his/her selling activities.

You may use the steps below to add APM to your account.

1. Click on the ‘Site Map’ link near the bottom of most eBay.com .au pages.
2. Scroll down to the ‘Selling’ section in the middle column then click the ‘Choose Automatic Payment Method’ link. You may need to sign in.
3. Select one of the following payment options: PayPal, Direct Debit or Credit Card.
4. Click 'Set up Automatic Payments' button. Fill in the details then follow the instructions in the succeeding pages.

You can also use the 'Change automatic payment method' link in the 'Payment methods for Seller Fees' section. To use, click that link then select a payment option.

You must have done something to get your account limited. Which would probably have shown up in your seller dashboard.

Or maybe register an APM, which has been required of sellers for quite a while.

Lets see - 90 days of which 18 are left. So 80% have already gone.

I would suggest registering an APM (I had to use CC for my shop but I make one-offs every month from Paypal) and waiting the 18 days and then apply to get my limits raised.

That would be my solution, given my eBay sales are far better than any sales elsewhere.

Mind you, I set my primary account up before eBay introduced these stupid rules. My experience, on this ID, is to set Paypal up as the APM, but to also connect my debit Visa. That gives me 100 listings and $7,500 per month. Automatic.

I am not sure if you are aware but you still get 10 listings and the restrictions apply to anyone selling less than a certain amount. It's purely an automated system.

Often if you have a credit card linked to your ebay account to auto pay for fees every month limits may be lifted.

Always a little sad to hear someone with a heavy heart. Hope you may decide to keep the account for a purchase or sale on a rainy day.

I think selling limits are fairly new and not everyone is happy with them. They don't affect me because I'm a low volume seller but I'd be very unhappy if I wanted to list a high number of items each month and I wasn't allowed to. Evidently it has never occured to ebay to ask members what they want before they introduce something.

$107.00? That seems ridiculously low to me. I've never heard of anyone being restricted to such a low dollar amount before.

I had 10 and around $100 when I started this ID. Maybe it's a translation from $A to $US and back. Which my limits still show. ie My total listing $ vary hourly.

I think the OP feels they have done all the right things and is being unfairly treated (like some bad guy) and may not realize these limits are just the system imposing them on everyone in that situation.

set up automatic payments for your ebay fees and as you sell more, your limits increaseselling 1 item a year for 13 years does not count for much, sure you have always paid your 1 invoice a year but that's not how ebay do business these days.

automatic a/c payments is the way to go

As said, connecting a DEBIT Visa will give 100 items (and sales don't count towards the limits, experience) and/or $7500 per month. Not really a deterrent for all except the dedicated Luddite.

my other sell account at first was restricted to 10 listings per month, so i requested higher selling limits - click here, all i needed to do was to confirm my bank account with PP, i now get 100 listings a month

the person who gave me that link was surprised how quick it took

i should add, I was able to increase my selling limits because of an established selling account which met all conditions.

im not sure of the link above that, but theres no harm in trying it

Increasing your limits

When you list an item, you may see a message letting you know that you have met, or are close to, one of your monthly account limits. If you can't wait until the next month to continue listing, you can click the link in the message torequest higher selling limits. Some sellers may also find this link in the All Selling section of My eBay in the Monthly selling limits section.

From time to time, eBay asks members to verify contact information and business practices before they're allowed to list more items on our website. It also sometimes asks members to confirm some information.

eBay may send you an email with more information on what you need to do next. You can find the email in the Messages section of My eBay. Once eBay can verify your information, it will review your account to see if it can allow you to list more items.

If you already have an established seller account

You may be able to increase the limits on your account if you have another, more established seller account on eBay. Your other account needs to meetall of these conditions:

You've been a registered seller for at least 90 days.

Your detailed seller ratings are at least 4.8 in all areas.

If your account meets all of these conditions, follow the instructions on the Request higher selling limits page to confirm that you already have an established seller account.
