Issues with paypal

So I am not a huge E-bayer in anyones language. I buy the occasional item and sell the occasional item if and when I need to. I recently sold a Kayak which the buyer felt it nessecary to pay for through paypal. Bad news for me because my account balance was greater than $1000.00 , when I went to withdraw it I discovered that my account was frozen.

Even though I had to identify myself to both ebay and paypal when I opened my accounts.

Even though I had to identify myself to open a bank account.

And even though my information is supposedly secure behind my log in password I could not withdraw my money untill I could prove my identity AGAIN.

After several phone calls and neumerous attempts to provide ID to their satisfaction, paypal finally un froze my account. Then I find out it is going to take another 3 to 5 business days for it to reach my account so by the time I get MY MONEY it will be 10 days after the buyer recieved the goods.

What is with that???

I can manage to transfer funds from my account to a strangers account with a different bank within minutes...How come paypal can't.

I personally would close my account with them if I could but ebay requires me to keep it to use their services.

In my opinion the policy of enforcing members to use the paypal service is unfair and unworkable.

Because everything on the internet are faceless transactions, it is for the safety of all members.

Too easy for scammers to open and run, hence the security.

If ever selling pick up items, request payment on pick up as this means buyer sees the item and pays. Usually means little recourse ever happens.

Any transaction for that amount of money will trigger an identity check. I don't know why you found it so hard, I had to go through the process when I wanted to transfer £500 from my UK bank to my Au bank using Paypal. I just emailed them a scanned copy of my driving license and an energy bill and within a couple of hours my account was unfrozen.

If money is taking longer than 2 days to reach your bank after withdrawing it then it is almost certainly your bank that is causing the delay. A withdrawal to my ANZ account takes one to two days, when I used Suncorp it used to take 5!

The frozen funds are because the Federal Government require all such transactions (pretty much, it depends on normal activity levels) to be checked. Money laundering laws, you know.

I don't see the problem. You got your money, the buyer got their kayak.

Pretty sure thats in relation to transactions over $10,000 not $1,000.

the buyer got his kayak and nine days later the seller still had not got his cash

As my transactions are usually a hundred bucks max and my transfer was not my usual pattern of use I was wrapped that Paypal did question it and ask me for further proof of id, had it been somebody trying to scam using my account I would have been alerted and it would have been stopped before I had to go about asking for the money back.

It is so obvious that most of you just "believe" the bull dust that these people want to blow your way.

How can user scanned documents be any more secure than a simple email or sms.

To be able to open a bank account in Australia one has to produce original documents proving your identity. The fact that ebay and paypal have my bank account details should be sufficient.

I agree that initial contact and/or changing bank accounts etc. should require security and ID checks however that being done the transaction should be able to be processed based on the information already recieved.

The transmission of ID just gives the scammers more opportunity to find and use my identity, if not with paypal, any way they wish.

You do not have to email the documents to paypal. A lot of us just fax them.

I would fax the documentation required. Using my local PO fax. With "Certified True Copy" annotated. By an authorised (PO employee) certifier.

I think that counts as a Royal Flush.

Except for the fact that AP employee have been told to not authorise anything any more by the hierarchy.

Does anyone else get sick of the constant put downs from other members when someone asks a question. Seriously we do not care about your "issues" the OP started the thread and if you want to discuss something of interest to only you go start your own thread.

Bottom line of this transaction is OP try to avoid Paypal payments for any pick up items as you have no proof of postage and the buyer could have had nothing in their bank account you wouldn't have had a leg to stand on.
