If the seller had clicked "no returns" when listing the item, the only way the buyer can return is by claiming "item not as described".

I've dealt with this in the last fortnight and found it impossible to give a refund - postage unless the buyer is willing to cooperate. It's extremely unfair on sellers.

Hi all,

I have been requested to give a refund which is fine. I gave a very clear description of the item, and stated that there is a no refund policy, however I am willing to give a refund in this instance but I do not want to give back the postage. How do I do this on ebay?

I look forward to your answers

Thanks

Tara

I think it would be wise to read Ebays policy on returns and ring them if you are not quite sure about it and your states consumer affairs can help

whats the reason for the return, change of mind or something else?

you can have a no refund policy but in reality the buyer can allways return an item regardless

i find it best to make the buyer happy, they return the item, i repay the original price plus postage both ways.

unhappy buyers can become nightmares.

first question is why the refund?

if as stated for a change of mind i think you can insist the buyer pay return postage but you can not withhold the first postage cost

if for a SNAD or faulty item then you the seller must pay for return postage and refund all purchase costs.

I think OP is asking what is the process ie. buyer processes via return item link. Chooses item not suitable, sends it back. Seller selects refund. Does the refund amount come up as original postage price inclusive or exclusive?

I'm not sure mine are all freepost so it comes up inclusive

If your buyer has changed their mind it is up to you if you refund postage cost or not. I would not do it as some explained in this thread it is not your fault and the postage cost has been paid already to Australia Post.

You have paid them and they have delivered. Ths part has been done without anyone's fault and the only person who needs to pay for it is a buyer. The buyer aslo needs to pay for retun postage to send the item to you for a product cost refund only.

If you have done a mistake in the item description or its pictures and the actual product is not as desrbied(by you) your buyer has bought your item based on the wrong details provided. In this case it is your fault and you should refund original postage and pay for return postage too.

Some say you should keep your customers happy. It imay not be your customer anymore since they ask for full refund considering "change my mind" reason. They probably never buy anything from you again. If you refund them full amount with postage because they changed they mind just to keep them happy there is a very big chanhce they may and will act the same way next time they change their mind. It will also affect other sellers because this buyer will be bying from other selelrs and they will think that it is normal way to shop sitting on their couch at home and making impulsive purchases and changing their mind later demanding full refunds later.

Try to look at it this way, you have paid AusPost for delivery and you have not paid them for insurance(your customer did not want it) and your parcel gone missing. AusPost will refund you postage cost but they do not care to pay you for your parcel content. They won't care to keep you happy by covering your loss which is often much more than postage cost. They have failed with their sevice only and they will refund you what they charged for it

A picture of the item comes up with order details etc. Halfway down the page is the refund buyer icons. A box shows the total paid inclusive of postage. The seller can click on this figure and manualy revise it to item price only or partial refund etc. then click "refund buyer" and "confirm" icon. I use this for combined postage when buyer purchases multiple items and pays immediately, not waiting for combined post invoice.

I sold an item a few days ago that had incorrect photos. The buyer contacted me direct rather than open a dispute. I immediately sent them the correct item as per photos with a self addressed, pre stamped envelope for return of incorrect item. The photographed item was more expensive, but I wore all costs. It was my mistake, my problem, I paid to fix it. On other occasions I have done this, the buyer has always returned the other incorrect item, even though they could "forget to return it " and keep it if that way inclined.

So far I have always recieved glowing feedback from buyers in this circumstance.
