WILL ANYONE SHARE THEIR POSTAGE ''SECRETS''

I ship with Aus post now

most of my items fit in 500g bags ($7.15 plus around 50c for bag)

3kg bags ($11.70 plus around 50c p bag)

this is using the ebay/aus post options

is there a courier service that is better rates?

or is there a better way to be less for Aus post?

or another way i cant think of ?

Why are you paying 50c for the ebay branded satchels if you are using the ebay labels? If you buy them in packs of 20 from Aus Post they are 15c each for the 500g bags and 21c each for the 3kg.

You can apparently also use your own satchels with the ebay labels and they go through OK, I haven't tried that as I have a load of ebay satchels to use up.

hate to say but i would stick with Aus post .. not worth sending via courier from my bad experiences even if there is a small saving if any. me personally wont buy from sellers who use couriers but that's just me and my opinion only..

We currently use Aust Post. Haven't diversified into couriers as many buyers don't like them. If you are not home there can be issues trying to pick up the item at a later date and they are not as easy to get to as a Post Office, which for most people are pretty accessible.

AP go pretty much all over the Australia, don't think there is any other service that covers the country like they do.

And I think $7.15 for 500g etc, is the lowest we have seen for post, and buy your bags in bulk, just increase the quantity that you buy over time as you get bigger and that will save you more and more. The only problem with bulk purchases is that you have to have the room to store it all.

This is just what we do, some other sellers might have some other suggestions.

I don't think there is any "secret" that you are missing out on.

The options you mentioned are by far the cheapest. The flat rate boxes are decent value too, if you have something around the same size that's a bit heavier (the 500g satchel is $7.15 to post and the 1kg box is the same - although the boxes cost more to purchase).

One option you're not using is the 1kg flat rate box. You can fit up to 1 kg in the box for $7.15 + around $2 for the box - usually costs under $10 all up and it is tracked. Just print label from ebay and buy box from Auspost.

I notice you sell DVDs. If used DVDs, put small piece of bubblewrap inside the case so it is snug, put plastic sleeve on it, and wrap in brown paper. Put $2 of stamps on. Never had a problem. CDs can be sent - wrap in bubble wrap, brown paper and $2 stamps. I do the same for books on or around 20mm - post from $2 to $4.

NEVER place these over the counter at Auspost - put them straight into red box. If they're slightly marginal you don't want counter Nazis carrying on.

You can buy excellent brown paper that is waxed from Kmart for $5 and I use their 100 pack of plastic sleeves for folders that is $4.

jut getting the price right for me and buyer is the issue ...due to extremely low price sellers selling lower than just the postage actually costs me

You can use generic BX1 boxes which cost about 40c. I've lodged them at various Australia Post outlets including Melbourne CBD on Elizabeth St - who you would expect would know what they are about - with not even a raised eyebrow.

Another trick is to used the assessed postage options. The 500g flat rate is standard across Australia even if you send it next door HOWEVER if you send something bigger within the same state (and won't fit in a BX1 box), it is worth checking the Australia Post Parcel cost in the same drop down menu of the ebay label page. Put the dimensions in + weight and it can be as little as $9.

If the OP is mainly paying less than $8 per parcel with AP for most of their postage, how can they save $8+ by using a courier?

Please explain. I am very interested in knowing the trick, as I am in the same position. In that most of my parcels are under 500g.

Serious what is wrong with you? why do you and your 3 friends feel the need to hijack every thread about couriers? What is it your trying to achieve, if you put half the effort, you put into sabotaging threads on couriers, into selling you might even make yourself $10 a week

How so?

This was a thread started to ask about postge methods in general, not just about couriers.

What you are missing is that couriers are not for everyone, so just leave off with your complaints about other members giving information that you do not approve of.
