Online groceries

I've just completed a survey for ebay.

It appears they are looking at commencing an online grocery service.

It will have all the whistles and bells....free postage, alerts on specials etc etc.

What do other people think of this?

I'm a supermarket person (even though they are not my favourite places!!) only because I can see the products I wish to buy.

That could be a problem for chinese sellers and because of quarantine foods.

Buyers could end up paying for items from China only to have them seized by customs and never get them, then customs fine the buyer for importing them.

I shop on-line for groceries. I use Woolies. Don't like Coles

They're not bad, but there's always an 'out of stock' email

I have to pick things up during the week, but only one or two things, so it's manageable

Wonder how ebay are gunna manage that, then?

Wowies - I can all sorts of scope for new and innovative "Where's my item?" posts with that one!

People not getting their incontinence pads in a timely fashion, not getting the laxatives they ordered and exploding as a result, pets starving because the slab of "Buy It Now" Pal has been re-routed via Darwin en route from Sydney to Melbourne, icy-poles arriving as a coloured stain in a box of empty wrappers, red meat arriving green and an INAD dispute being put in...

A little couplet with my thoughts on online grocery shopping. ..

Shopping online for groceries is neat
But don't let them choose your fruit, veg, or meat.

I use Woolworths sometimes, because they accept PayPal, but only for products that can't vary from package to package, or piece to piece.

Not sure if I'd grocery shop here. It actually takes a long time sometimes ro go through and select products so they would need to make sure that process is as quick and simple as possible, plus ensure next day delivery between narrow timeframes (i.e. no "between 9 & 4" timeslots).

There is no fine for the average buyer who imports something without realising it is restricted.

There would be fines involved for large importers who do it knowing it is restricted, or for people who are constantly doing it.

Digi, my fruit veg and meat has been pretty good. I've had very high quality, so far.

I've been shopping on-line for about 8 months now, and it still takes me

about an hour for the weekly shop.

But it's a lot better than me having to physically walk the aisles.

That used to take me 2 hours and then I had to unload the car.

Darn near killed me every week.

I give thumbs up for on-line grocery shopping......but ebay???

Sounds like greed to me. Maybe they are tryimg to make up for the lost fees from sellers like myself (and from all the others mentioning their dramatic decline in sales) in recent times.

They should get back to trying to run their website and app properly stop dabbling in other areas (in my opinion).

That's right why ebay? as there are plenty of online grocery sites now lol.

And would ebay be personally delivering to your door in one of their trucks with a big EBAY sign across it lol.

Maybe some of the van posties might switch jobs haha.

My thoughts exactly.... groceries sitting in the black hole at Chullora for example!

If I was going to do online grocery shopping, I'd stick with either Coles or Woolworths.

I feel that it's not one of ebay's better ideas!!!! LOL

Might just be my store, or the shopper I had on the day, but the first shop I did, I had to throw out some of the stuff as it wasn't remotely usable (eg bought garlic, and every single clove was dried and shrivelled up). Woolies are the only online grocery store I know of that actually do accept PayPal (and PP advertise them on the FB page etc), plus there's the Click & Collect thing, so maybe it'll actually be Woolworths on eBay rather than eBay groceries? If it is something more like Woolworths on eBay, I can't see the point. Mostly because I know the system communication between eBay and large retailer's pre-existing systems is abysmal, and a significant contributing factor to many Out of Stock cases, overlooking orders etc.

I had that survey earlier today too. Told them it was yet another appalling idea and that I would never be interested. Plus why don't they start supporting small 'mum & dad' sellers for once, then maybe they could afford to go shopping on eBay!!

I'm a supermarket person too as I live almost within sight of a shopping centre with 3 different supermarkets, but have friends who have shopped online and say the produce delivered has been excellent quality.

I am a club catch member and also buy some grocery items there. I get 'free postage' on orders over $50 (used to be only $20) but I paid about $70 for a year's membership. I'm wondering if ebay will introduce something along those lines as without cheap delivery, no one will buy just an item or two.

I would imagine it will be woolies doing the supplying & probably not everyone will be eligible to buy, only those within cooee of one of their centres or stores.

But I don't foresee any problems, why should there be? I don't have any problem with catch of the day parcels arriving quickly and grocery items that include fresh produce will come via van anyway, not Aust post.

Re the mince, I always select heart smart or premium so it's a better grade.

And the squiggles? I put it in a bowl and mash it with a fork. The squiggles

get mashed in that way. ( or squash it with your hands, ewww)

With Woolies, if you're not happy, they give you a 1800 number for

Customer Service. Doesn't matter what the problem is, they'll give you

a $10 voucher for your next shop.

I find their pages are fast enough to load. Not a problem for me.

They also have specials for on-line shoppers only

I've received refunds and the voucher for just one shop. Their after sales service

is very good.

Woolies on ebay? I can't see the point either. But there are other grocery on-line

sites. Maybe ebay is enticing one of the smaller ones? They say they shop various

stores in your area and deliver within the hour?
