Hi All,

Recently work has put on a block on the my ebay page. www.ebay.com.au works but when you access myebay it's blocked. does anyone know how to get around this ie a ip address i can type into the http://? either that or navigate to another page to see my sales etc but not via myebay

Umm, wouldn't that be so as to restrict computer usage to work-related...stuff? :8}

At any rate, a web proxy would probably do the trick.

(Some filters can be bypassed with certain sites - like Facebook - if you just add an 's' [secure] to the http, doesn't work with My eBay near as I can tell).

Jump onto your boss's computer (administrator) when he's not around and remove the block?? If you're going to break the rules, then do a good job at it? :^O

Sounds like your workplace may have blocked just your 'myebay', it would be difficult to block everyones individual ebay pages. Wouldn't the IT dept need to know everyones id's to do this?

My son was using google translate as a proxy to bypass the facebook blocks at school, not sure if that would work. But really why don't you just check on your mobile during your break?

I have to be honest and say, if I was a boss, I wouldn't my staff using a computer, internet supplier and usage that I paid for, to access eBay.

I feel the same about a tip I read to save on electricity in the home - charge everything that needs charging at work.

I may be considered an old fuddy-duddy, but to me it is stealing.

As has been said, if you have a mobile & can connect to eBay - do it in your lunch break, or find an Internet Cafe.

I also think it is sad that children find was to get around blocks on school computers. Taxpayers pay for these for schoolwork. Also, schools put blocks on for good reasons - I'd be marching my child up to the School if I found out he/she was breaking the rules - and have; in the days well before computers were in Schools!!!

These are my opinions and don't want to sound/be read as being judgemental. I just have been brought up to believe in honesty and in no way am perfect, but do try to do the right thing.

I may be wrong, but I can't see how he can block your home page without blocking the whole of ebay??

What happens when you try and access it?

Don't worry I've got it sorted- one of us boardies can phone your boss and explain that you need to use the ebay chatboards, check your sales, do paypal x-fers, package your orders, use the bosses postal account, and answer emails, all while you're at his workplace. You'll probably get a promotion for your enterprising nature 😄

The URL for My eBay is not ID specific, which is why adding it to a filter will effect a global block on accessing it for anyone on the network. If My eBay is the only part of the site that's blocked, I dare say you could log in and do everything else (bid, buy, list, browse, log in/post to the forums....)

The boss, or whoever is in charge of setting the blocks, would have access to the web history of all computers on the network, so there's probably a reason this one was put in place (frequency, time spent, etc etc). 😉

Fair call Kayedon my son isn't even a fan of facebook and rarely uses it but had worked out how to do this in his first year of high school. Being a bit of a nerd it probably helped his social standing at the school a little 😛 I know it earned him a few kudos with the older students.

They can't do this anymore so the correct blocks are now in place. At the time I wasn't overly concerned there are kids his age drinking, using drugs and dropping out of school. It seemed pretty minor in comparison.

Digital Ghost, so I'm confused do you think the block would be on all the 'myebay' pages or just the op's?

With you on that one. I don't know about here in Australia but in the UK it would be grounds for dismissal.

If a company wants to restrict computer access they have an absolute right to do so and they also have the ability to very easily check to see if those restrictions have been by-passed.

If I was a boss then all non work related computer access would be blocked, why should I pay you to do anything other than work for me?

If you absolutely have to check your My ebay page during the day do it on a phone or a tablet, netbook or laptop with mobile broadband in your lunch hour or breaks, not on the company time.

If your boss read this then I suspect your days in the job will be numbered!

The block will be on all users - My eBay isn't a web page profile that has a unique URL for individual users. This is the URL:

http://my.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?MyEbay&gbh=1

Anyone who clicks that link will be taken to their own My eBay (or prompted to log in first if they're not).

I think you'll need to ask for a PA too- you can't possibly be expected to do your job AND do ebay - that way you can get your entire ebaying done during work hours and your new PA can handle the rest. If your boss handles this request ok, the next step is to ask for a driver.

People who expect to access ebay on work time are probably the same ones complaining that publically listed company facebook doesn't provide them with absolute privacy and freedom...

If you know the IP address of the modem/router you can get around it. If you do have the address, you have to hope that they left the user name and password as admin

To find the IP address all you have to do is do a search for the brand of Modem/router and you can find out that way..

For weeks now I've been having trouble with ebays browser. Wont fully load pages, locks up, and stalls out.

Seem to have started with the new look ebay. You know the whole cicles upon circles waiting for pics to load

I have 5 pcs at home and a number of 3g devices on wifi. All have the same problem.

It is random, and annoying.

Dose anyone else have this problem, or do you know if it is ebays problem?

I've been loging into the US to search ebay. No problems that way.
