GST on eBay postage prints

How can this be correct? Say you sell an item for $25 ($2,72 FVF) plus $10 postage ($1.09 fee), and then when you print an eBay postage label for $7.40 you are slugged with another 74 cents fee? Surely this is double-dipping.

Ebay is providing you with a service with that postage label.

That 74c is the GST component that they now have to pay to the Govt. (Netflix Tax)

They don't get to keep that 74c - so, no, not double dipping

So if I take my parcel to the post office and pay $7.60 I am going to be better off? Am I seeing that correctly?

the $7.40 is GST inclusive. As far as I'm aware, eBay are not charging GST on it.

Have you actually checked your account? Because mine shows the increased charges against eBay fees, but NO corresponding increase against postage. It is pretty easy to check, as each line item has the total eBay charge against it. So my postage is $7.40, not $8.14.

Yes I have checked a couple and they are all stating $8.14 eBay postage ($7.40 plus 10% of 74 cents = $8.14). It has only increased since 1st July. Previously the charge was only the $7.40.

Then you need to contact ebay about it. The blurb they sent out specifically stated that the GST was only payable on ebay fees, not on the postage amount.

I don't and I sell about 60 per month. So I think I would have noticed.

Where are you seeing an extra charge added?

There has always been GST included in the cost of the eBay Aus Post shipping labels, charged by Australia Post. If you go to Manage Postage Labels and print off a Postage Tax Receipt you can see the GST amount. This has not changed since the new "netflix tax" on eBay fees started on 1 July.

That is odd. Is it showing the same way on all of your postage labels? I just checked mine for the same date and it is showing as $7.40.

Ring eBay and get them to check your account. Last year there were several mistakes with the postage labels on our accounts and it took a couple of phone calls before they were all sorted.
