Mailman Postage Officeworks

Has anyone used the new Mailman postage service via Officeworks? Is it easy to use, reliable? Any feedback is appreciated.

It is not new and there are mixed reviews of the service.

You have to deliver the items to an officeworks store and the buyer needs to be able to collect from Officeworks if the parcel is not delivered to him.

As Fastway is the courier being used it is in the lap of the gods how reliable it is.

Hmm that sounds too hard! So have to stick with AP then 😞
Thanks for the info, I thought it was wishful that there'd be a cheaper option for items under 500g that don't fit in an envelope.

Just to add our two cents worth, we don't mess around with any other delivery options. Always use Aust Post, their ease of use, printing online labels, and multiple locations are in our opinion are hard to beat.

And no one else has the Aust wide coverage that they have. Personally wouldn't waste any time/sleep over other options as they are far the best.

We know that they have some issues, but if you learn to work with them, over time the benefits outweigh the negatives.

From our perspective, having a PO that is open on a Saturday morning for last minute posting, and now having access to the new 1kg bags are big ticks for us. And if we ever get big enough will be able to get our deliveries picked up.....oh bliss.......a girl has to dream.

So it's really personal choice but we find that not having to think about this side of our business too much allows us free reign to do the things that really matter like sourcing stock, cleaning,repairing, listing and SELLING.

Thanks for your 2c worth 😉 I haven't sold on ebay in a while and looking at getting back into it. I didn't know about the 1kg bags. That will help with those pesky items that are 600g! I agree printing the labels from ebay is so much easier.

I haven't used the 1kg bags, but something is telling me you need to buy them in bulk. I don't think you can buy then single over the counter. Hopefully someone will come along and clarify.

Yes, the 1kg bags sit nicely in between the 500g and 3kg currently available. As others have advised you have to buy in lots of 10, so is a bit to outlay initially and not something that we normally do, but in this case have "bit the bullet".

From memory cost us about $10.95 each. At this stage have only bought the Red ones, they are available in Express too, don't know about using the Express don't have a lot of requests for that service, but some might.

Yes, the one kg satchels are only available in packs of ten, but AP do provide discounts for bulk purchases. All of their satchels are 5-10% cheaper when purchased in packs of 10 and a further discount is available if purchased in lots of 100.

When our ebay business was at its peak, we went through the figures with an AP sales rep., to see if it was worth starting a postal contract with AP. I was buying pre paid satchels in lots of 100 at the time and this actually worked out just as cheap as going onto a commercial postal contract for the number of items I was sending, so the discounts can be signifigant.

Another thing people may not be aware of is the cost of Australia Post tough envelopes. I havnt purchased one singularly, but I believe they cost over $1.00 each. When purchased in a box of 100, the price comes down by around 60% ( no not a typo !!!! ) so definately worth checking that out if you use them regularly.

The same applies to Officeworks items, buy in bulk and it becomes cheaper.

I have never tried the Mailman service, but then again most of my items go as large letters which Officeworks cannot compete with. Isn't it great when the government can get away with anti-competitive practice simply by writing its own exemptions to save itself?
