Neither am I, but just like the 'used ladies panties' listings, I think it goes way beyond accepted common propriety, even in this so called enlightened (loose) age.

Our precious little ones can gain access to far to much of this stuff unfortunately. The mighty dollar seems to win out.

It can be quite innocent. Some time back I was searching for a 'dog comfort coat', the ones you use for dogs terrified in storms. Some of the promoted ads gave me 'other items of comfort.'

And besides, it's not like you haven't hear the word before!

Like - Everywhere.

In print, on TV, in everyday conversation, and the chances are all kids of that age hear it on a daily basis.

It's only a word after all.

And if you are that paranoid about it, lock your computer away, or at least change the password, kinds under 18 shouldn't be on Ebay anyway, since they can't sell or buy anything.

Under eBay Australia's User Agreement, section 3. Using eBay:

"While using the eBay services, you will not: .......... use the eBay services if you are not able to form legally binding contracts, are under the age of 18 or are suspended from using the eBay services;"

So that 8 year old is 10 years too young to be anywhere near eBay.

Now that we get that bit sorted out, lets look at the appropriateness of the listing.

It depends on whether that title is the name of the product, eBay is a bit vague on this. It appears if that is the name of the product or on the box of the product, then it may be ok. If it is not, then it may be against eBay's policy.

people are able to sell adult products on ebay. i don't see a problem with it.

i once listed an item of makeup which the actual name was "so f***ing gold" - it was removed by ebay and later reinstated after i proved to them it was the name of the actual product. they will take things down if they have bad language in them just for the sake of it - i dare say that is the actual name of the product.

as others have said - 8 year olds really shouldn't be looking on ebay - simple fact is, they're not going to be using a paypal account to go and buy anything (even though some hilarious buyers claim after the fact that that is what has happened and want to cancel their purchase / bid). there's better websites you can direct them to if you want them to look at pictures of online shopping products :] i'm sure you know that though..

I don't have anything against adult products being on eBay, but I think there's a small change possible that could please everyone....uh, so to speak.

There are sites that have on-site 'NSFW' filters. They are always on if you're not logged into your account, and they mask adult content (images are blurred / blocked and you have to either sign in or go through a couple of extra steps to view them, written content you have to do a click-through consent type of thing to continue on and read). If you have an account, you can either have the filter turned on permanently, or turned off.

These are meme sites, by the way, where people just post funny pics etc. If what amounts to a 'joke' site can do stuff like this, I'm sure ebay could figure out a way to keep the stuff behind virtual curtains, as well.

These type of listings were never allowed but in the end they are now a common occurence and they make

eBay money,(ethics isn't a word that this site is familiar with).

The only way you you used to be able to report these was is via the report link on the listing page ,

Report item > Listing practices > Inappropriate item description > Profanity, obscenity, and vulgar language.

But their policy says it's fine to have "swear" words in listing titles and such.

Another way used to be: Report item > Prohibited and restricted items > Adult material > Other sexual or adult

Items,(although they probably qualify for removal using that report anymore).

Their policy states that they are only allowed in the Everything Else > Adult Only category.

But then they've made up specific categories for these in Health & Beauty > Health Care > Sexual Wellness >

Sex Toys

Most don't list in Everything Else > Aduly Only category as they've found that eBay have given them better

categories to list them for better sales

Those you could previously report via: Report item > Listing practices > Search and browse manipulation >

Listing in an incorrect category.

So in the end this site has covered all bases and they can no longer be reported as that might stop the cash

that these items bring in,(and as others have stated to be a member on this site you have to be 18 or older and

that clears them legally of any wrong doing as they can't stop a non member accessing the site if a member

allows them that access).

The 8yr old doesn't have to be searching ebay. If you enter that sentence without the asterisks into google, it brings up the ebay listing plus a host of other sites selling that product.........

I have screenshots which I do not intend to post here from youtube, you can see from the screenshots that I am *not* signed in, it is an extreme hard core porn and down the side of all the related videos are a bunch more, mixed in with normal political news videos. Parents can be sitting there with a child and bam, it's in your face whether you like it or not. Please don't say nobody is obliged to click on the listing because a lot of pictures are quite explicit in the gallery view.
